I'll Teach You to Laugh
It’s so difficult to make you laugh. You are always on the lookout, so afraid to show your face and what’s behind the mask and expensive clothes. I keep trying, even though it’s fucking exhausting sometimes. I swear I tried to give it up so many times, but then just a quick picture, a memory of your laughing face flashes through my mind and I’m back on my journey for your laugh.
You’re unbelievably beautiful when you laugh, perhaps mainly because it’s so rare for you. I don’t mean the ironic laughter, which you are so good at now. No, I mean the pure, honest laugh, which makes your lips curl up and your eyes shine, laughter which lights up your face before you have a chance to realize it and stop it.
You taught me many things, Brian. You taught me well, but you never taught me this. Maybe no one ever taught you? I have known you for years, but you are still a mystery to me.
Michael told me something about your childhood. You told me a bit also and I’m now putting together the small pieces of this big, complicated puzzle called ‘You’, trying to make a picture of who you are. But I still don’t know you. I know I never will, but I guess it’s just as well.
