The traffic is crazy at this hour, like the entire city of Dallas decided to go into the streets and block the whole city, and Jensen's radio is broken. There's a constant murmur coming from the backseats, hushed words she doesn't understand, and not only because she can't hear them well enough. It's like they're talking in some different dialect or language, like they have their own.
She feels like an intruder, can sense that they're holding back, maybe just their enthusiasm, the thrill of seeing each other again, maybe more.
Jared keeps on talking while Jensen's mostly quiet, just laughing or commenting shortly on Jared's narration. He's never been much of a talker, always so shy and reserved, but beside Jared basically everyone looks like a mute sphinx. It's kind of adorable.
Then there's silence. She's afraid to look, to disturb even more than she already has, to corrupt their privacy, but she can't not look. She glances into the rear-view mirror just in time to see Jared pulling back, eyes dark and sparkling, his large palm sliding off Jensen's knee. Jensen's blushing, his look mirroring Jared's, his teeth worrying his lower lip. They look away at the same time, staring out the windows, each on his side.
She returns her gaze to the road, wondering how long it's been like that. How long they've been hiding, lying, watching their gestures and language, denying who they are and what they feel not to lose what they've become and achieved.
