If he had to pick a color to describe Jongup then it would be brown. He made the mistake of mentioning it to Yongguk one day and Yongguk laughed at him. Said brown was a boring color and he would probably offend Jongup if he ever told him.

But Himchan thought brown was the only color there was to describe the way he felt about Moon Jongup.

The dirty brown color of his hair when the roots started to grow in and they didn’t have time to go get it re-dyed for a few days. Himchan secretly begged the stylist noona’s to let Jongup sport his natural hair for at least one comeback but they always refused. He thinks the green color was just to spite him. Those noona’s loved to torture him.

Jongup was his own loyal brown puppy that would follow him from room to room without even realizing he was doing it until Daehyun would notice and tease him until he was too embarrassed to even look at Himchan. It would take him hours to convince Jongup that he liked it when he stuck close. That if he turned around one day and Jongup was glued to someone else’s side that it would break his heart.

When they had a day off and Jongup begged him to come play at the park and even though Himchan wanted to just sleep he couldn’t say no to the soft voice and sad pout the younger boy gave him. Jongup had gotten so dirty from the mud that it was flaking into his hair and his once white tank top was now streaked. Himchan had told him the shirt couldn’t be saved but he had washed it anyways and kept it folded in his drawer. Sometimes he pulled it out and remembered the blinding smile on Jongup’s face when Himchan had wrapped an arm around his waist so that he wouldn’t slip on the wet sidewalk as they walked home.

His dark brown eyes that looked like melted chocolate when Jongup was sleepy and would lay his head in Himchan’s lap. He knew Daehyun would have a problem with that. He would say that chocolate came in too many colors to narrow it down to just one and Himchan knew it was cliché to call someone’s eyes chocolate brown, but they were.

Jongup was the roots that kept Himchan grounded to the earth when being an idol was so overwhelming that he thought he would float away in the crush.

When a devil’s food cake and a mug of coffee made exactly the way he liked it was shoved at him across the table, Himchan silently thanked him with every single bite he took. Dots of flour covered Jongup’s red cheeks and Himchan pretended not to see the mound of coffee grounds in the trash can that Jongup had went through before proclaiming this one good enough.

The deep bruises scattered around Jongup’s chest, the colors lightened to rust, as Himchan sucked new ones so that he could watch them fade.

“Brown.” He said quietly one night when all the members were asleep and it was just him and Jongup alone on the couch, strong thighs wrapped tightly around his waist. “If you were a color then you would be brown.”

Jongup tried to laugh but it came out as a low, guttural groan when Himchan shifted his hips. “Is that a compliment, or an insult?”

Himchan laved at the newly pink teeth marks on his collarbone and used his thumb to stroke along Jongup’s tanned shoulders. “Brown is the best color.”
