Breaking Dawn Part 1 (WTH? Part 1?)

Nov 19, 2011 22:04

Ok, so this continues my initial impression of Twilight- terrible literature, watchable movies. This is also the first time reading the books where I felt that I was actually reading horror, and an interesting take on body horror.

Massive spoilers for Breaking Dawn, and the rest of the Twilight. Also, I'm a pro-choice lady, and I talk about my ( Read more... )

Other people raise her baby for her--she misses out on all the hard parts! I mean, watching you with Ted, there's A LOT OF HARD PARTS in the first two years. I can't imagine the first five. Like, how does that child learn anything? Does she just come out with fully formed language skills? A sense of right and wrong? Knowledge of good behavior? Boundaries? My mind, 'tis boggled.

I don't expect Twilight to makes sense, but I SM is a mother, so I just wonder how she could write about Bella missing her child's first years... Also, Nessie was probably only a baby for a day or so, so she must have magically breastfed herself or had half a bottle of formula.

It's such an immature version of childrearing--Bella still has no agency in her life. Other people planned her wedding, her honeymoon, (her whole relationship is controlled by Edward), and raised her child. Basically, all she did was choose her child's life over her own, and that didn't even work out the way she meant to--because of the actions of other people.

Ridiculous. I'm going to go back to reading the Vampire Academy books. At least that main character knows how she likes to make out with boys and makes choices for herself (and talks to her best friends--another female character!).

PS. I need an Ann & Leslie Icon for when I'm talking to you. It just feels apropos.

I heard you were watching the baseball scene (a little bird told me). We have to watch it together!

I love hunting through my memmed icon posts, you don't even know. I am ON IT.

I know about the first few years, it's been stressful and I feel like I fail. ALL. THE. TIME. But damn it, I'm trying. And everything worthwhile is hard to get and hurts while you're doing it. (This thought got me through grad school and labor.) Just swanning in every so often wouldn't do it for me.

Renesmee has no real boundaries. She doesn't like actually talking to people, just showing them pictures. CREEPY.
