I've been on a quest for the last few years to try and make my computer as silent as possible. I have a semi-quiet one, but I want more. Lately I've been thinking about buying this
Shuttle Zen XPC/mini PC, with an external power supply. It's very quiet, and the entire system is only 23dB, which is almost totally silent. But there is one problem. It is only available with a motherboard that uses a Pentium 4 (no serial ATA and/or raid is a bad point too). I haven't bought an Intel CPU in over ten years, as I've always liked the price/performance of AMD. I might have to bite the bullet and spend $200+ on a CPU. :-P
It seems that there are no other external power supplies for PCs! Most people would like a quiet room, so I don't understand why this market need hasn't been filled. Is there some sort of electrical noise problem with an external power supply? Anyone want to start a company with me?
Perhaps I'm the only one who wants a quiet system. How much more would you pay for a computer that was silent?
