i still don't have a job, which is a little worrying. maybe soon! i may end up having to get something non-computery to pay the bills for a while.
most of what i've been eating lately is channa masala, because it's extremely cheap, fairly healthy (though canned chickpeas have a lot of salt), and doesn't require any fancy ingredients apart from amchur powder (dried crushed mangoes), of which you can get several months supply for $1.50 from anywhere they sell indian foodstuffs. here is how you make it, on a pan on the stove on low-medium heat:
1) saute a garlic clove and two onions
2) put in some tumeric, ground red pepper, ground cumin, and coriander
3) put in a drained can of dice tomatoes. cook them until they brown.
4) put in two cans of chickpeas and a cup of water
5) put in some lemon juice, garam masala, amchur powder, powdered ginger, cumin seeds, and paprika
6) cook until the water's mostly gone, around 12 minutes or so
BONUS STEP) slice up some fresh ginger and/or a serrano pepper and stir it in just before the food is done
Six - Eight servings of spicy comfort foods for about $5 in ingredients (minus spices)
