So, it is my understanding that, if we are talking about "Christ the King", then it must be the end of the Church calendar year; it means, next week we start all the way from the beginning with Advent. Oh, yes. the Advent candle. It all comes back to me.
I think people all over Christendom are having trouble remembering where they are on the Church calendar these days; it's been so long since we've had to mark the days until Christmas. I didn't do any shopping last year and was embarrassed when Big Bro' and wife did a drive-by drop-off of our convectional fryers. I wound up throwing some money into an envelope and card, wishing them a Merry Christmas as they drove off.
My fryer stayed on my kitchen counter for several months and got a good workout until I realized I was eating way more fried food than I ordinarily did just in order to see what the machine could do. So, I eventually put it away. Just as I'm sure Gladys has unplugged the electric herb and salad garden that I gave her the year before.
The Rector is back in full force. Her eyes, the only things visible when her face mask is up, register as rested. Amd, she herself told me as much after the Benediction.
I had spent the bulk of the service seated next to Bing. We were like two peas in a pod, signaling when we each needed something. They have these little slips of paper now that serve as a kind of scrip denoting that you are a regular patron of the church and though not putting anything into the plate this morning, you nevertheless wish to be "counted" during the weekly offering. Bing could not find his "marker" and for a while I had both our names written on my piece of paper. That is, until he found his next to him, underneath his coat.
We scurried to find extra copies of LEVAS when "When Just A Walk With Thee" entered the list only to find out moments later that it was reproduced in our Bulletins with a slight twist (the Choir began with the refrain while some of us entered on the first stanza - same melody but different words.)
Pale Male texted me soon after the Benediction and I met him at Manhattan Diner for brunch and cocktails. I had just enough advanced notice to tell Daman where I was going when I passed him on Amsterdam Avenus; but, he'd apparently had enough of us tired old queens from the weeks before and wished me a hearty Godspeed.
