This was one of the sanest Intersections I've spent worshiping in - I have to say it - years. No crazy people were there. Where they went, I have no idea; it just seemed as if they all woke up and got the same e-mail: skip St. Mike's this evening. And, you could feel the difference. There was a palpable air of relaxation throughout the service. The Rector officiated and FrontpageJr made his debut (insofar as I can recollect) at an Intersection service. Quietly active is the only way I can describe him. He's pretty much figured out that he shouldn't interrupt Mom while she's conjuring and intoning different things, but, at age seven, he is a constant motion machine. Legs swinging, head twisting and turning pretty much at all times. I guess all kids are born scene stealers at that age.
Huggy Bear was there. I couldn't wait until I could count the offering money and put the altar things away. He'd said some things during the Reflection, but, I couldn't remember what it was. I mainly wanted to catch up on his trip to "Scandalnavia".
He managed to make it all sound very sacrosanct and dreary. Though beautiful, none of his pictures had another human being in them. He invited me to eat some solid food after Refreshments, but, by then I was tipsy on chardonnay and sated with cookies. I felt like a safe cracker who'd lost his skills.
We said, farewell within shouting distance of the subway shed as he scolded me, "Next time, less wine and less sweets." To which I could only nod in agreement.
