Omigosh, It's Epiphany!

So, it's been almost exactly a week since I arrived home from the 26th(?) Annual GBTQ RC Workshop and discovered Crosby's letter in my mailbox. And, as a result, the arrow on my metaphorical dial has definitely tilted back toward St. Michael's a little bit. I'm not sure where to put RC in my life right now; there are some interesting people (like Sumner) who float in and out of it; there are the teachers and leaders who seem to be the true stakeholders in the organization. They can be frustratingly charming, demanding, manipulative and cloying, depending on the time of day. I've decided their main strength is in their ability to pool the life experiences of hundreds of followers from around the globe and channel them into a myriad number of publications and workshops. I might not like them all, but, there's no denying that an awful lot of them spend an awful lot of cumulative time thinking about the world and its problems.

All of that is countered by one handwritten letter from someone who knows me well enough to kid me about my middle name. Almost immediately my desire for pornography abated; I felt manic for at least a few days. I'm definitely in better shape for Lent.

The Episcopal Church doesn't play favorites; anyone can leave and come back at any time, welcomed with open arms. There's some guilt-tripping (it wouldn't be a religion without it), but it's rarely used as a short-term strategy. And, it's surprisingly democratic; in another week St. Michael's will be voting on a new batch of vestry members. RC still operates as a benign family business to and from which you are cordially invited to take part, or, leave - the latter often with extreme prejudice.
