Had a busy day yeserday. I'm going to another RC event this weekend (leaving this morning) and needed to get up early to do a laundry, then some quick shopping for breakfast food (I let myself run out of bagels.) Someone from my GLBTQ group called for a session so we split about ten minutes (which really wound up about twenty minutes with chit-chat and housekeeping matters.)
By the time I looked up from my computer it was already nearing 3:45, almost too late to squeeze in a visit to Mom before the New Year. I also thought it a good idea to go into the City to purchase my bus ticket in advance so that I wouldn't have to worry about it when getting up this morning.
What to do, visit Mom or buy the bus ticket? My Conscience-in-Chief said, I had time to do both.
Done and done.
Mom seemed to recognize me right away and again I wondered whether it wasn't because I was carrying hot food. I hadn't eaten all day and by 5:30 a double order of McChicken sandwiches was sounding awfully good. She didn't say anything for the next half-hour but the look on her face told me she recognized all the tunes I downloaded from Youtube: lots of selections from The Sound of Music (I think it's her favorite movie musical - as it is everyone's really.) and toward the end I played a Guy Lombardo cut of "Auld Lang Syne".
Mom's eyebrows clearly arched at the chords of "Lonely Goat Herd". By the end of Auld Lang Syne she was touching her cheek with the tips of her fingers a pose she often strikes when she knows she is being watched. I call it her "picture taking" pose.
I wished her a "Happy New Year" and she let me kiss her on the forehead.
