Well, it's Epiphany, folks. And, I should know that by now because it always comes as an epiphany when I realize that's the proper name of where we are in the Church calendar. I think it must have to do with The Wise Men.
The Jets have won their divisional playoff.
Sis and family have just left.
And, Meryl Streep has just given a most moving acceptance speech for her Golden Globe win as Best Actress in a Film Comedy. But, apparently it was nothing compared to Mo'nique's (which I missed) for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama.
The Earthquake in Haiti was certainly the 800 lb. gorilla in the sanctuary today. Church was moderately crowded; not, high holiday crowded; but, enough to make the line for Communion snake a little more slowly than usual.
And, yet, you could hear a pin drop through most of Mass. The children seemed especially subdued this morning, further reminding me of how intuitive children are.
I shared a pew with Mangagirl and we were comparatively chatty. She claims she was even more cold today than last week evn though the thermometer was about thirty degrees warmer. She said, it was probably because last week she was wearing long underwear.
Michael Weiner has just accepted the Golden Globe for Best Television Drama. Go Wes!
Anyway, The Rector delivered this morning's sermon, on one of his favorite subjects: The Glory of God. I think it is a work in progress; it is almost easier to say what it isn't than what it is. I have a distinct feeling that it has nothing [to do] with beautiful buidings. Nor with beautiful people, apparently. But, that's about all I'm sure about.
Speaking of truly Beautiful People, I'm not quite sure what to make of Paradise. I was a little late for Coffee Hour and by the time I reached them, he was already engaged in a complete recitation of this morning's aches and pains with one of The Mandarins.
No sooner did I break up their conversation, than The Mandarin excused himself, disappearing into the Parish House Meeting Room. Within ten minutes, Paradise was reciting a complete list of all the people he has known who've died on or near Christmas. I have no idea how we got on the topic. If I hadn't interrupted him at the year 1985, I have no doubt we would still be at Coffee Hour.
Maybe, just maybe, it was his way of channeling the tragedy in Haiti.
