Mischief Managed
Well, I've survived my 5th Dragon*Con.
A couple notes, a full report will come later:
- General fur prescence was up, while fursuit spottings were down. I think Kai's Niko was out for the longest length of time. FWA had a full-color ad inside the front cover of the conbook. Anthrocon had a less impressive ad somewhere in the middle. I counted at least 20 confirmed furs, and chatted with about 75% of them. (Slowly, I'm getting more socially active...)
- CDMA rocks, GSM is epic fail. I didn't have any problems dialing out via Sprint, and no troubles reaching Verizon/Alltel users. However, I could tell who was using AT&T... as you wouldn't be able to reach them for at least 20 minutes after a big panel let out. ("BLING BLONG! This number is not available at this time. Please try again later")
- Tails are old news, feet are all the rage. Only a handul of "nice tail" comments, but I got TONS of double-takes and comments once I started wandering around in Winston's giant feet. People were amazed by me going up stairs and using escalators with them. You know what they say about those with big feet... ;)
- I missed a few opportunities I should have taken... A cup of coffee, a chance meeting in an elevator, etc. Then again, I took a few opportunities too, and some of those turned into total awesome. ^_^
- Always throught that consuming three con hotels was a crazy feat. Well, now Dragon*Con has now spilled over into a FOURTH hotel, the Sheraton. Eventually they'll just rent the City of Atlanta for the weekend.
- Tiger Nick mentioned the chance of a Furry track at Dragon*Con next year. Dunno what kind of panels could be put together with our relatively small numbers. But, having a headless lounge available would be a HYOOGE help.
- The Weather Channel is LULz. One TWC dude described the gulf coast as "getting raped". Also, kudos to the Republicans for putting the Republi-con on hold. Boo-hiss to PBS for replacing the RNC block with a re-run of Antiques Roadshow! (By the way, SCAD kids - trouble is headed your way)
- I've seen Sophie's fursuit gang so many times in the parade... and yet I've never had the chance to engage them in conversation. Someday.
