As promised, here is my geeky post of the day...

I'm about to the point of breaking down and building myself a decent antenna for my PC's HD tuner. Indoor reception here sucks. Main antenna doesn't pick up some of the obscure channels which reqire more careful alignment.

Did some tweaking of the ethernet cables in the basement. Its amazing what a few clips and twist-ties can do! Its almost sexy. Theres a Wii, an unsexy XB360, and a PC all needing ethernet in one room... I might need to go buy a cheap switch.... Or be a bastard and use an "unpowered hub" (aka splitter).

Last night there was a complaint about the unacceptable speed of the basement computer. The primary culprit was the antivirus software. I simply don't trust Windows boxes without AV software (especially when I'm not at home), so I didn't want to remove it. Then, I had a better idea.... Xubuntu to the rescue! (Ubuntu, but for old hardware) Now the machine is running Hardy Heron (8.04) and is less painful (and more secure) than Win2k + AV. The real test will be when non-geeks attempt to use it.
