The Impossible Shopping List

Man. Today I decided to make a list of all the games (and game systems) I need to buy between now and Dec. 31, and the results are -not- pretty. Between PS3 and Wii and everything else, this is easily going to be the most expensive holiday season ever ( Read more... )

Iunno about the Sega Genesis Collection, I think it would play better with the real controls, hopefully better than that crappy smash pack. Ys sounds like a must, Metal Gear is a must, and FF3.

But the Genesis Collection is on a system whose controller has a D-Pad and buttons. How is that not "real controls"?

I would look myself in the mirror and ask myself if my priorities weren't totally screwed up, especially when half those games will be selling for a measly $20 in a year.

Playing a Genesis game with a controller that has shoulder buttons and a diamond button layout? Are you serious? I'm gonna have to ask you for your hardcore license and registration.

I don't have much of a problem using a standard PSX pad for 2D platformers and the like. I even got pretty good with it for Street Fighter back in the day, though I couldn't do that now.

No, my big problem with this collection will be inaccurate emulation, which Digital Eclipse is notorious for. Thr worst bit will be the line-doubled interlaced graphics, which'll really degrade the image quality of games that should look perfect.

One of the few retropacks that doesn't suffer this avoidable fate is Sega's Gunstar Heroes Treasure Box. It's the gold standard to which other such packages should aspire. Its only shortcoming is that the audio's a bit off. Very minor though.

Gunstar Heroes Treasure Box has completely spoiled me as far as retro packs go :(

I'll still buy the Genesis collection because I'm totally gay for Gain Ground and I'm a real Vectorman mood.

Because I'm honestly too lazy to pull my genesis out of the garage and hook it up :( I could fire 'em up in Kega Fusion (which is two parts awesome and one part badass), but...

....ehh, I'll probably fire them up in Kega Fusion.... and buy the retro pack anyway because I'm retarded for Gain Ground :(

Genesis collection is sadly not going to make the cut. It's true, I own half those games on cart already, and I'm certainly in no rush to play them again, so at the very least, I'll wait. I kinda wish they'd make a 360 version so I can at least get some achievement points for struggling my way through Phantasy Star II again. :)

Yah! I wish they would try to make good remakes to many of their older games or even sequels. I'd love to see NiGHTs remade in high quality, maybe a new Streets of Rage with tons of addons multiplayer modes online and some new music by Yuzo Koshiro. Phantasy Star II is so long and grueling, we need some motive for sure.
