Firstly, my answer to QOTD, hands down, is this: ENGLISH, WITH A SIDE OF HEAVY CREATIVE WRITING. ;) (The original two-part question was "What was/is your college major? And do you use it in your current job or career?" though.)
As for whether or not I use it in my career? I should say say so! :D As we speak, I'm in the midst of writing my first novel (to be part of a trilogy). And I've wanted to be such (a novelist, that is) ever since I was 5 years old. And I'm soon to be 29 now. So, I DO think that it's about time to make and mold that hope into a much more tangible reality, don't you? *nods sagely*
Here's where it gets complicated though. I attended two vastly different universities, one small, one huge, one pretentious and fake, one real and diverse. So, OF COURSE, their courses could NEVER match up to each other. Not in terms of requirement, but also in terms of major. The first college I went to, alas, also known as the pretentious one, had creative writing in its actual degree title. (So, you'd get a BA in English: Creative Writing. NOT just English.) The second university (key word there!) I went to, which I liked at least somewhat better the other, didn't think even think Undergrads were smart or talented enough to be able attain such a degree, and so only offer it to their grad students. Something that irritated me to NO END. And makes no sense at all either. I knew how to write well by 5 years old. So, why can't I FINALLY pick the major I want for my undergrad degree, as opposed to being stuck with a more generalized degree that I didn't even really want. *sigh* I took all your different damned creative writing classes. So, give me a degree that says that! Come ON now! (So, what I wound up with was "just" a BA in English. Period. End of.) *fumes for a while & comes back*
Second off, and on a definitely less controversial and way more "I Haz A HAPPY!" note, I wish to welcome two new pals to my humble internet abode:
cifan70 and
peak_in_darien. They're both quite lovely, and they love all the many incarnations and incantations and permutations of Sherlock Holmes just as much as I do. And just as
celestialcure before them does. So, what's not to love? Nothing! That's what. And YAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!! :D Plus, Peak is Australian, something that I've wanted to be since I was wee (around 7 years old, to be exact). This hasn't happened YET, mind you, but I'm working on it.;) So, please make yourselves at home. :D
~Sharma,

of the friendslist-y world out there! :D
