Not sure whether that's a recommendation... *g* A lot of people do know him only from this role and you get weird looks when you tell them you are a DT fan ;)

With the recent Fright Night movie, I tend to tell about that instead. Even though his role was small, everyone liked him in that!

Last weekend I had a friend over who just recently became a fan. Too late for her to join us when we went to see him in theatre back in June. Too bad. Anyway, I showed her lots of my collection, including 17 years old David in that Dramarama episode with all of his Scottish accent... we had a fun afternoon and evening!

Oh, and today I worked on another changed action figure - I want to make David in that white Navy uniform from "Much ado about nothing". Have you actually watched that yet? Well, I admit, I don't like horror movies at all, and if it hadn't been for David, I would have not went to the movies... but if you did not see him, you did miss something very important indeed LOL Long before the movie came ou we got the first pictures of him in costume which was deeply discussed in all details in the internet, and then there was an extended trailer from Comic Con, and a squee went around the world. Admittedly he was not in many scenes but when he WAS on he stole every second. Got very high praises from critics, too.

Well, let's just talk again once you have seen his Doctor Who episodes! As Sharma said, it can't take too long now, since Chris did only one season. And I was VERY pissed because I loved him, he was my first Doctor and I did not want anyone to take over... took me a long time to see what a wonderful guy David is. Not only as the Doctor, I have seen him in many other roles, TV and movies and also theatre (my icon is from the stage door last year), and he is a really good actor, always different. I bet he had much fun doing "Fright Night" and I look forward to whatever he will do next. And apart from that, he is just a lovely human being, very down to Earth.

You do that! And British series only have 13 episodes, not 22 like American. Took me really by surprise.

They had aired the first two seasons in German TV, with dubbing, but then stopped due to bad ratings. And I was not yet a fan enough to try and search for English episodes in the internet, and afraid I would not understand much.

I only came back to the Doctor Who fandom years later once I had become a fan of "Torchwood" and John Barrowman and wanted to find out more about Captain Jack Harkness (he also appears in the first Dr. Who season and later got his own spin-off series because the fans loved him so much). Still I was not yet a fan of David's way to play the Doctor. But I joined a German online forum where I got bombarded with pictures and interviews of him, and therefore could not longer maintain my hesitance against him. It's hard to stay grumpy when everyone is so excited ;)

All the people I am a fan of - which at the moment are David, John Barrowman and also Richard Dean Anderson - are very kind, down to Earth and very lovely people. Otherwise I could not fall for them. John recently even gave away the shoes of his own feet to a homeless guy in Paris... and whenever you meet him on street he is ready to give autographs and do pictures. David is a bit more shy than him, but everyone respects his privacy, and I think it makes him even more adorable.

Well, then you have lots of lovely things to look forward to! Please don't give up easily with Torchwood either, everyone agrees that some of the episodes in season one are not so good, but season 2 is much better and season 3 blew us away. We had very high expectations for season 4 which got not exactly fulfilled, but still it is a very good series and I hope it will continue one day.

I understand wanting to watch it all in order, but please be aware that sometimes Torchwood and Doctor Who ran parallel. For example, between the first and second season of Torchwood, Jack appeared in the finale of season 3 of Doctor Who, and he came back from that somewhat changed. Also the Doctor's companion from there joined him in a few episodes.

And again in the very last episode with David, when the Tenth Doctor went to say good-bye to all his friends, you will find Jack like he was after season 3 of Torchwood had ended, and you would not understand the significance of it if you hadn't seen that first (David admits while filming he did not get it, as he only saw it afterwards).

So maybe you can mix it a bit?

I also LOVE Sherlock and I can't wait for tonight but you are right, after that surely the wait will be very long again! It's just that everyone involved is so busy, Moffat with Doctor Who and Martin Freeman with the Hobbit and I hear Benedict Cumberbatch will be in the next Star Trek movie...

But at least the Sherlock episodes are very long and you can watch them again and again and still find new things. That can't be said for many TV series! When they aired the first season last July in Germany my friend was like "OMG I can't wait for the cliffhanger to be continued" and I said well, I am waiting since August 2010!

Heh, no worries, I am the same, when I come home from the movies or theatre or concert, I never can go straight away to sleep, I have to talk about it first. And since I live alone the talk is usual online. I just hope with all my replying I don't keep you from sleep - it is bright morning over here in Germany, 10 AM ;)

And I still have to catch up with the original Enterprise from the Seventies, as I have grown up in Eastern Germany, and this was not on our TVs.

There was a time when friends wanted to convince me about "Firefly" but I'm also afraid it did not click. Maybe it wasn't the best time, it was at 1 AM after a concert and I was pretty tired, but they were laughing all the time and I did not get the humor. I can understand the plot better when I have subtitles for the English. Plus I never was a fan of science fiction shows which are set on a space ship - that's why I loved "Stargate" so much, as it did not depend on ships, at least in the first seasons. And that's why I fell so easily in love with "Torchwood", as the underground base and the team and the "set in Cardiff in the present" (as opposite to a far future) reminded me a lot of Stargate.

Sharma, sorry for taking over your journal in that way ;) Hope you enjoyed our conversation. It's always nice to meet fellow fans, or helping to make them into fans, as it is at the moment LOL Seriously, I could talk about this all day long.

And hey, Traci, once you have started with Torchwood and became a John Barrowman fan (of which I have no doubt LOL) I also need to tell you about his other side - he is not only an actor, he can sing and dance and do all showbiz things, even has his own TV show in the BBC where he surprises people and fulfills their wishes... once you put the name into youtube you will find lots of clips! I was lucky enough to see him twice in concert already, which were great shows. They are available on DVD as well.

Yes the Single Ladies clip was John - showing his playful side ;) Whenever I need cheering up, I watch John - you can't resist his smile for long!
I just wish somebody had told me earlier. I really only knew him as Captain Jack and then one night stumbled about a youtube link and spent till 4 AM before I realized I won't be able to watch all of them in one night (when you have one finished, twenty more pop up ;) )

If I had known earlier, I could have flown to London in 2009 and see him live in the musical "La Cage Aux Folles". So I missed that and am very sorry. And as opposite to David's "Hamlet" and "Much ado about nothing" it did not get filmed, so I can't even watch it from DVD.

Yeah! Yeah yeah yeah! I LOVE "Desperate Housewives"! Loved it right from the beginning and was very happy when John got announced, because for once I already knew the show. Often you only watch one episode for a guest star and have no idea of the rest. And John himself is a huge fan and was happy to meet all the actresses. There are lots of interviews where he is so excited he is practically jumping up and down in his seat LOL I really love how excited he is about all the things he does, he always gives 110 percent.

And he says as a child he already went to see the studios with his family and has stood on the street that now is Wysteria Lane, and now he was back filming there. Awesome story.

My reason for starting to watch "Stargate" was only Richard Dean Anderson. I knew and loved him from "MacGyver" and just wanted to see what he does now. Did not expect to fell in love with the whole thing, as before I never had watched any Sci-fi. The team is great, the actors, there is a lot of humor, it's just a good mix. Maybe it went on a bit too long, as the last seasons were not so good anymore, but it made me get into the internet and visit conventions and making music videos and start writing fanfiction and by reading English fanfictions I learnt all my English, and I met all my friends which I did not have before, so it was a huge part of my life and I cannot thank Rick enough for that (see how I have a fitting icon for every topic we talk about? LOL)

I remember when the movie was in TV once I read the description and thought, what a crap, going through a ring to another planet ;) My brother told me for three years I should watch the series while I told him he should watch MacGyver - we had no idea we were talking about the same actor LOL So the first episode I watched is from season 4 with a time-loop, I love time-loops. It was so funny and yet emotional at the end it got me hooked.

So I want to add this to the list of my highly recommendations ;) That's it now, though. At the moment I also have fallen in love with "White Collar", and "Eureka" is funny but soon stopping, other shows I loved were "Six Feet Under" and "Boston Legal" and "Queer as Folk". I do watch "Glee" as well and hope for it to get better again.

Maybe a job where you search for misspellings in books? It always annoys me when I find some. So you could read and still get paid? I would be not good as a critic for movies, though. I only can write about stuff which I really love.

Oh, I forgot - actually, "Father's Day" should be before "Empty Child" (with the gas mask). John Barrowman will be in all coming episodes till the end of season 1, he travels for a while together with the Doctor and Rose, since his own ship got blown up. So you have three more episodes with him and Chris, and then it is taking over by David! Yay!

The gas mask episode is very creepy but one of the best in season 1. In fact, it is a two-parter, so have you seen both parts?

No Being human version has made it to German TV so far, and I can't watch everthing in English... I do this only for series I am a fan of. I'll check it out once it arrives as I have heard many good things already. Somehow could not get into Warehouse 13 though, I stopped after a few episodes.

I love both ways to play the Doctor - Chris was often moody, with a sadness in his eyes, and that touched me. But I also love David's funny madness, this Doctor seems to enjoy travelling through time and space so much! Of course, David being a Doctor Who fan himself bleeds through in that. So, wish you fun with the next episodes! The best ones even happen in season 3 and 4, so you have a lot to look forward yet.

Did you ever find time to watch that small Fright-Night-clip I sent you? Half-naked David? Just saying...

And yes, you can watch the first season of Torchwood now, Jack won't return to the Doctor till the end of season 3, which is settled between TW season 1 and 2.
