...Hands down, it's gotta be Robert Downey Jr. :D

Despite what a lot of the so-called professional film critics might say, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows was a brilliant movie and a terriific, better-than-the-first sequel! :D And Robert was utterly adorable on the interview circuit as well. In short, I just think he's a really fun and funny and ( Read more... )

That is true, everything is dubbed in Germany. The dubbing is of good quality (not like France where a woman spoke MacGyver, I have been told) or in Poland where only one man is doing all characteres... So, we get good actors who put a lot of emotion in there. Still, it is not the same, sometimes jokes cannot be translated and such, and it is especially weird when there is German in the English original for example. Like that movie with Matt Smith about Christopher Isherwood, which was set in Berlin.

Once an actor is famous enough, he will get the same voice all the time. But of course some dubbers do more than one actor, which often is confusing, when you know this voice with another face.

Some cinemas air movies with original language and subtitles, though. But those are rare. I watched "The King's speech" with Colin Firth first in German and then in English. Also sometimes you can switch the channel at TV to hear original language. But the default set is German.

So, when I want to listen to original language, I have to watch DVDs - which for this reason is a huge market over here.

And yeah, the second Sherlock Holmes movie is in our cinemas at the moment right now, I was just not interested enough to go, since I hear mixed reviews. Some are very excited, while others say this has nothing to do with Sherlock Holmes at all. I'll make sure to get my own opinion, but I want to see the first one before the second one.

Back in 2010 when the Sherlock series aired its first season in the BBC, I heard all friends talk about it in our Dr. Who forum. Without the connection to Moffat I would not have heard about this. But so I got curious and a friend provided me with a copy of what she had recorded from TV. I love it! Right from the beginning. When it came to German TV one year later I made sure to tell all friends and family about it.

What a great series it is. Made me get out my Sherlock Holmes books after years and re-reading at the moment. I always am happy when I find all the little details they put in.

I cannot wait for tomorrow, I take it you also have watched the past two weeks? The internet is a great place ;)
