Zen And The Art of Betty..."Ugly Betty" that is.... :D
Hi there, all!
Long month, no see.... *hugs her f-list* :D
As I no longer am host to the almost religious fervor for all things CURRENTLY Doctor Who (Herr Moff, Herr Smith, this means YOU. YOU, Karen, remain AWESOME however, and are the only reason I'm sorta kinda still watching), that I've had for the past 900 some days (or three years), I have filled that semi-void with something VERY different, but no less gone the way of the Dodo. And what exactly IS that very different gooey, yummy center?
It's Ugly Betty. Which is a 2000s era show about a so-called "ugly" duckling (alias the "be-braced, oddly bedecked, but still beautiful" Betty Suarez) turning into a swan, while working and acting as the personal assistant and later on friend to a massively sexy himbo du jour - sorta like a gender-switched version of the "hooker with a heart of gold" sterotype that Julia Roberts personified early in her career - (alias the "is he for really THAT sexy?!?" Daniel Meade) who is also the owner of the fashion magazine, MODE (French for "fashion"), that Betty helps him out with.
Initially, I think the snark and Betty's close family unity was what drew me in. My family's not positive and supportive, like Betty's is. And even Betty herself is just so smile-y and cheerful! :D So, seeing both her and her family in action gave me something that I'm currently missing and lacking from within my RL. AND the other parts of the colorful cast of actors and characters were the ones that made me want to backtrack and see more of Betty AND her world. :)
My mom was MAJORLY into this series when it first debuted four years ago. And since I usually can't stand what she watches, I thought this time would be no different. Only...I saw the series finale with her and my grandmum about a week or two ago now, and ADORED it!!!! :D And since then, I've been TRYING to mainline it into my bloodstream, via tv reruns and the beauty of Direct TV. :D It's ADDICTIVE! And I've been on a happy binge ever since starting to view it. And I LIKE happy binges. :D
America's (Betty) amazing (she has an especially niiiice sense of comedic AND dramatic timing for someone so young; she's three or f our years younger than me). Eric's (Daniel) hot and funny and adorable in his own special way too. And, well, I guess I just really want to have both of their babies...well, if that were even physically possible, that is. ;) *grin *lol*
So, do any of you join me in my NEWEST fixation, oh awesomely cool and hip f-list of mine? *hopeful look* Or am I alone in this questing???
I think I already ship the show too, which is FAST work for me.
After all, it took me months to ship any Who pairing. And even then I couldn't choose just one. I still best like to read and/or write BOTH Ten/Rose and Ten/Donna over in THAT corner of the universe.
As for with Betty? Might not be the most popular opinion, folks, but I've landed headlong in Detty territory (home of the infamous Daniel/Betty pairing), and I find it to be quite a cute place to be, and don't plan on leaving anytime soon. So, what say YOOOUUUU? :S
I liken this "power duo" in the following way:
