Galactic Funk and 120 Questions of Biology Madness....

Tonight I hit the road again.  I feel a slight sniffle in the nose but I can no longer put off the necessary.  I should have been running sets of 4 and 5 miles this week, but instead I will be doing 3 and 4 until next week.  I want to be further ahead in my training, so I will have to train harder and push through the subzero conditions.

I have been taking the product Airborne in lieu of the Kombucha Tea, although I have been drinking a half cup of Kombucha daily.  I pour some out to test the pH and then instead of throwing it out I drink it.  So I feel my immune system is in pretty good shape and can handle the run.  Plus I have a pretty thick beard going which does wonders for keeping the wind off my face.  Because the hair is so thick and coarse it lets almost no cold air in and it traps air around my face which warms up.

Tomorrow night I am doing something very unlike me.  I am taking a personal evening from work in the library.  It is pretty quiet in here as it is with exams going on and such.  Plus I have shown up here like clockwork day in and day out for the last 2 and half years.  Regardless I don't feel bad.  Why am I taking the evening off?  Because one of my favortie bands is coming to a small venue here in Philly.  They are playing at a place called the Theater of the Living Arts and it is on South Street, the trendy area of Philly.

The band is called Galactic www.galacticfunk.com They come from the streets of New Orleans and their music is a nice Crawdad Po'Boy with hot sauce for the ears.

The description for them goes like this.....Constantly weaving modern and retrospective styles into its own trademark jazz-funk-rock fusion, Galactic has created a far-reaching canon informed by ongoing influence from a wide range of genres, including hip-hop, blues, pop, and electronica.

They are a pretty bad ass band.  No doubt they really get down.  Here is a picture of them playing....

They have some great horn work going, the bassist is great at laying down some funk, the drummer is amazing at going from jazz to funk to hip-hop to rock and the guitarist really knows how to work the wah wah pedal.  Nothing like a little good New Orleans cooking to refresh the soul.  I started listening to them around 1999 and really enjoyed seeing them live in concert.  I got to see them in New Orleans when I was down there for Halloween some years back.  They were ripping it up something fierce in their hometown.

I love New Orleans.....the music is incredible and the food, man the food.  I had never been introduced to the Po'Boy before I was there, but bet you this, I had one everyday I was there.  Some crawdad and hot sauce.....damn my mouth is watering.  I will have to get one when I am down there this summer.

I am definitely excited to see them tomorrow.  Aqila is going to come with me to see them.  She isn't as into the jam bands as I am, but she can appreciate good music and loves live shows.  Hopefully she will be taken aback by the groove these guys put out there.

Alright, I am going to go read and start stretching.  Cold weather like this you got to stretch good and long to make sure you don't have any blow outs on the road.
