You know, my life pretty much sucks these days.
I'm two years into a thirty-year mortgage I'm just barely managing to pay for, and with no job I'm having to liquidate assets just to buy food; I can't keep that up for too much longer. Add to that the thought that I'm probably pretty much unemployable, the bottom line is disquieting to say the least.
I have several friends, but nobody in my life who wants to get any closer than that, and I see no prospect of that ever changing. I live alone, and fully expect to die alone.
But let me tell you something. When you're sitting on your parents' back porch, facing west, and their mostly treeless backyard slopes downward, and beyond that is a cow pasture, and beyond that is a line of trees that hide the Connecticut River, and beyond that are the hills and low mountains of Vermont, and beyond that is nothing but the sky...
...the sunsets are FUCKING AWESOME.
EDIT on Tuesday, May 12: And I've just realized that Neil Gaiman said this exact thing more than ten years ago. Oh well.
