Here is a little recap of my 2 weeks up in the UP.
Every year the fam goes up to our cottage south of marquette on shag lake. For those that have never been north of gaylord, the UP is like a wooded switzerland only with hills instead of mountains. They call the UP someplace special. I found the people to be very special indeed.
The town of negaunee spends half of their city budget on the fireworks display. Here I am blending into the rocks as I wait.
Who needs working street lights and expanded library hours when you can pump a grand finale like this into the heavens?
Kris came up for a week and my dad promptly ran his honda suv to its limits and took us through the back roads to the 'hidden rocky lake'
Here my brother and Grandfather join another exploratory squad to 'hidden rocky lake'
More exploration
Birds and Frogs and Flowers and Delux Outhouses
Other wildlife included the UP night owl. Kris and I went for a night on the town and found were gods among UP men. Here we have some of the some UP night owls in their own environment. Notice the bright colors indicating that it is mating season. The girl on the left is a stripper. I bought them grey goose and tonics at an outrageous $5.00. We saw the bar tender getting tipped 25 cents so me and my brother publicly shamed him.
Laken Land is this incredible sculpture park we found in the middle of nowhere on the way home. Admission was free and there were no employees. Just a path with 40 of this guy's random metal sculptures. It was a quirky fun surprise to find especially in a place you would never expect to find a sculpture park. Although now that I think of it, the old soviet sculpture park outside budapest was in the middle of nowhere too. The guy even had a little camp set up at the end with coffee supplies and and bottle of anti freeze marked 'emergency use only'. I slipped 10 bucks in the donation box.
