Question up for debate

I was watching the news during my lunch break at the chow hall, and they had a poll about who was for/against the war and different things like that. So the question popped in my head...

To what effect, if any, does the medias interpretation of the war in Iraq change the opinions of the general public?

The original way I was gonna word it sounded to biased but it was, "Would the publics opinion of the war be different if the media portrayed it in a less negative way?"

In my opinion the media portrays it in a very poor way, such as...
-soldier deaths-which scares the general public and disheartens people
-sending more troops over there-which scares the general public, especially military families
-car bombs gallore

I don't think they portray some of the positive things we have accomplished over there, but not being able to speak first hand of it I can only speculate.

I think the media is a very powerful tool to lead the general public in thinking the way the media wants them to think. I'm not intellegent when it comes to history but I think it was the spanish/American war where the media told the story of the battleship "Maine" and we were in war weeks/months later.

I'd like to hear other peoples perspectives on it because I have my way of thinking and it won't change if I don't hear how another person thinks about it. Also since the military has brainwashed me, and my strong opinion for a strong military anyway, I only see a very biased opinion on it. Curiosity is getting the best of me xD
