So I finally got down yesterday and saw Grey Gardens. It was between seeing that or 110 as they're both closing Sunday, I think I made the right choice.
We got to the box office around 4:00. I was surprised to see quite a line. When we went to the window, the woman said the only three seats she had left togther were Row C, 10, 12, 14. Because they were partial view, she offered to discount them. I really don't think she needed to do that, but we were grateful. After a dinner at Juniors, we went to see the show. Our seats as it ended up were fantastic. Discounting mine was just a gift and my grandma and aunt could see everything but the attic scenes. While we couldn't see inside the windows of Grey Gardens, neither could quite a few other people. I was pretty much loving my seat, especially in the second act when Little Edie's "Around the World" was done right in front of me. Good stuff. Overall, the show was gorgeous. The acts individually work as stories so together, it makes them a fascinating look into these lives over time. I was blown away by Ebersole's marathon performance. She just never stops and never misses a moment of truth. The applause she got after her opening song of Act Two was insane. It kept going for a minute or two and she looked so touched. It was also a great surprise to see Mary-Louise WIlson's performance. That woman can still sing really well! My grandma really, really loved the show as did my aunt. We stopped at a diner on the way home for a snack and my aunt said, if the show wasn't closing, she'd like to see it again. She has never said she'd want to see a show again. Wow. I also find it terrifying that my other grandma and aunt live in a state that is really Grey Gardens-esque. It's terrifying to think it, but it's so true.
I'm glad I saw Grey Gardens before it closes. Besides, I learned more US History there then I did in class yesterday.
