Well, yesterday was pretty amazing.
It started off with Ashley and I getting into NYC and going to the O'Neill box office to try to get tickets for Sweeney. Lucky us, they had two aisle seats in row K (Great seats for Sweeney). We got them and then went off to hang out until we were meeting Deb at 2:45. We were walking along and I saw the Chitty Marquee was still lit. Of course I was sad to see it still lit so we walked down past the theatre. As we were walking Ashley and I saw this open big loading door. We go over and I'm looking from the stage to the audience of the Hilton Theatre where Chitty Played! I took a quick picture, not wanting to piss off the crew men. Then Ash suggested we ask if we can go in and take a quick picture. I was terrified the men would be mean and annoyed we were bothering them, but they were incredibly nice. they said we could basically do whatever we wanted, didn't bother them. They asked where we were from and it ends up they're from Newburgh! So they let us take some pictures...I don't really think I was breathing at this point. When i didn't get to go backstage the one time I felt for some reason it was ok, I'd somehow get another chance, and here it was. A few minutes later, they were taking down some backdrops and I saw the sky one, so of course I took a picture of it! After thanking the men profusely, we headed to Second Stage to meet Deb. Since we had time to kill we went into a Christian book store. Yeah, Ashley, being Jewish, decided to look for a Bible. Good times. Then we met Deb, She's seriously amazingly awesome, went and got some lunch and hung out for a bit. Once Deb left Ashley said she thought Deb and I had known each other forever, I'm glad we hit it off as well as we did. Then Ashley and I had at least 4 hours to kill. We decide to go to the MoMA and head off in the direction Ash thinks it is. After going to the back of the Wintergarden (or Wintergreen and I mistakenly said) theatre, we saw a line of highschool kids with MoMA bags. We go to the end of their line and ask these two girls if they know where it is. They say it's about 3 block that way...they seem to think three block is a lot. Confused as to how 3 blocks is a lot to these seemingly dumb girls, we headed off. Eventually we didn't find the MoMA but we went into St Thomas' Church on 5th Ave, then found the MoMA. Who'd have thought it...Fridays are free at the MoMA and free = insane lines. So, no MomA for us. We think about what to do next and Ashley finds out I haven't been on the subway. That's because my parents seem to be afraid of it and we've never had reason to go on it. So Ashley and I decided to take the subway to Washington Square. What a gorgeous area. So after hanging around there we head back. After a train came (we waited a Long time) we realized it was rush hour, were entertained by some guys singing on the train then dancing after the train. We went to McDonalds for dinner, we're So high class, then headed to Sweeney. Now I was Thrilled to see it again and for Ashley to experience it. Without giving a lengthy review (or trying to) the cast has all grown greatly and with little changes it was still a stunning piece. My favorite part has to be the time between the curtain going up and the beginning of the Ballad of Sweeney Todd. The tense mood in the theatre is incredible. Also, I can't say it enough how much I adore this cast. They do this exhausting show yet come out of the stage door and are incredibly sweet and willing to talk and sign and such. It was really nice to see once curtain call began the entire theatre was standing after a few moments and the cast was forced to bow mutiple times due to the fact that appluase would not stop; it was great to see such a nice response to all the hard work (of course I was one of the first standing). The cast just never fails to amaze me. Afterwards we met most of the cast except for John Arbo, who has never stopped (though he's technically a pit musician by trade and I'm sure he feels uncomfortable with the crowds) and Mark Jacoby (who has to run and catch a train). I finally met Diana DiMarzio who couldn't be sweeter. When I mentioned I missed her the first time I came, she began apologizing, I insisted no, it wasn't her fault. it ends up she said she didnt know she should stop (it's her Bway debut, she's done tours, she probably didn't think she's a big enough name or part to stop). She then read online someone said she was rude because she didn't stop, so she began stopping. Of course I loved seeing Manoel and Donna Lynne again (prolly my favorites of the cast). Alexander Gemignani actually had a nice conversation with me, in comparison the first time I though he was annoyed I was talking to him. Lauren Molina and Benjamin manguson we nice as always. Cerveris was nice to see again, really talkative this time as well. Also, finally meeting Patti Lupone was awesome. Ashley loved the show as well, I'm really glad, and we headed home after Patti.
All in all an Amazing Day. Check out pictures in my album. :-)
