I have my new computer now and wheeeee! it are awesome. Though it doesn't quite feel like mine yet. I need to put stuff on there and change the desktop to something appropriately fannish and write some porn on it and then it'll be mine!

Had a nice, fairly uneventful Christmas. Was at my aunty's place in Corowa, NSW, with some of the mad extended family. Ate lots. Went swimming in the muddy, not-cold Murray River (did not see the mighty Bismark, which disappointed me). Actually swimming was probably the highlight, since I can't think of anything else to tell you about. I was hanging out for pavlova and we did eat pav, which was delicious. Can it get more Aussie than this: a barbecue followed by pav on a hot summer's day? I think the cricket or the Sydney to Hobart yacht race was even on in the background.

Have been feeding sajee and peace-bloom's animals for the past couple of days while they are away in WA. That's three gorgeous kitties - Josh (a crotchety black and white thing), Iowan and Niamh (black semi-long haired twins, except that Niamh is a halfling and oh-so-cute, while Iowan is bigger and more sociable) - and one crazy dog (Beatrice, a scruffy small brown excitable thing). Yesterday, Beatrice made me take her for a walk, but I didn't have much time, so we only went down to the end of the street and back again. But she had to sniff every tree and post and corner we came across and it was exactly like she was checking her flist - seeing what dogs had been there before and what's been going on, etc. And she left a 'comment' of her own here and there. Reminded me of that Leunig cartoon about dogs... wait, I'll see if I can find it (though our internet is being painfully slow at the moment, grrr), because I wonder how many non-Aussies, or even non-Victorians, will know who Leunig is?

I'm on holidays now, as of 1pm yesterday. And seeing as it's a nice warm summer's afternoon, I might just start drinking. G & Ts possibly, though I don't know what the tonic state is like. Or maybe beer. Or maybe I could drag myself up the hill to Dan Murphy's and get some Muscato - which is what I really want to drink.

family, rl, utterly fascinating minute, cats, animals
