Last year, I set myself the challenge to see 100 films in 2009. I didn't see 100, but I did see 80 (
all listed here) which was my secondary aim. It's 81 if you count half of The Princess Bride which I watched on YNE (might watch the other half today) and that mostly-fast forwarded film watched at the House of Squid with
piecesofalice (remember, that one with the dancer who failed her audition to dance school in New York City and had to do burlesque/stripping to support herself and had a boyfriend who looked like her brother and other cliches? What was that called,
piecesofalice?) (I guess the roller derby porn we watched afterwards was more memorable).
I also
read some books.
I'm not sure if I'll do a (fic) Writing Year In Review for 2009 because my output was quite incredibly small (especially compared with 2008) and dropped off rather suddenly when I started going out with
metal-dog and had better other things to do with my time! ;) I did, however, write in a few new fandoms last year, something which is always fun. They were:
•
Tennis RPS (let's see if the Australian Open is inspirationally slashy again this year!)
•
Midsomer Murders (only for
nixwilliams!) (MM being a tv show which I have since BROKEN UP WITH, because it brings me nothing but PAIN and FRUSTRATION)
•
Malory Towers - with my yuletide offering:
A Secluded Spot at Malory Towers (Sally/Darrell) written for
vampirespider.
I can now admit, in public, that I had never ingested any Enid Blyton before getting my yuletide assignment - which is when I decided that lesbian schoolgirls might be more appealing than the fandom I was matched to. And thus, fast reading and some stressing and much hand holding from
nixwilliams resulted in that story getting written. And though I'm happy with my fic (particularly as the recipient seems to have liked it!) and I do like some of the characters in the cannon, I don't feel that I missed out on anything in my childhood by reading copious amounts of Roald Dahl instead of any Enid Blyton.
You should all now go and read the yuletide story written for me,
Aboard Undina, by Propaganda (who I believe is
notpoetry on lj, am I right?). It's Three Men in a Boat RPS, Dara/Griff, gentle and lovely, with their voices and characterisations just right, as well some sublime details involving boats and whisky. I just love it, and all the more now that we've just watched Three Men Go to Ireland, which was so wonderfully slashy. Thank you ever so much, yuletide santa! :)
