Elizabeth pulled her knees to her chest as she silently sobbed into her legs. She couldn’t stay in that room with them, it was too unbearable. She had retreated into the swamp behind the hut. Lonely, she wandered off deeper into the mucky place and hid behind a large willow. Lizzie felt eyes on her but she didn’t really care. The people of this horrid place where all over, she got used to there constant stares.

She remember how she was beside her self in guilt and sadness as they rowed down to Tia’s hut. Lizzie couldn’t believe that she just left him there.

It was for everyone’s good. The Kraken would of gotten all of us.

But even Lizzie couldn’t pull herself to believe that. They could’ve gotten away if they tried hard enough. They could’ve made it, but Elizabeth, being the ever so smart governors daughter, decided to chain the man, who she just found out she actually cared for, to the mast of his own beloved ship.

But everyone knows the tradition. Captain goes down with his ship.

Elizabeth groaned as she tried to get these horrible thoughts out of her head. She patted her head pitifully as she cried in the crook between her knees. Lizzie then quieted down a little as she remembered how he looked at his ship one last time before she kissed him.

“He probably would of stayed.”

A single tear fell down her cheek.

“He would’ve stayed.”

This only made her feel worse. She stuck him there for no reason because he would’ve stayed anyway! So all she did was betray her friend and kill him in the aftermath. Elizabeth sniffed and wiped her face with the back of her hand. She bet she looked horrible.

Lizzie leaned back against the huge tree and took a deep breath. After a while she calmed down and felt her own heartbeat in her throat and ears. Elizabeth remembered looking into his deep chocolate eyes before meeting his lips with hers. She was surprised at herself as she pushed him up against the mast. Jack responded immediately which wasn’t all that surprising but for him to let her take control like that was something she wouldn’t of expected. His kiss was so soft but fierce at the same time. Jack tasted like rum, and the sea. It was intoxicating.

He gently tugged against her bottom lips with his teeth. Lizzie almost forgot the purpose of her action. She let her hand fall down to her side, searching for the shackle she knew to be there. Once found, she gathered up all of her confidence and quickly clamped it shut over Jack’s wrist. Jack stopped and leaned his head back a little, giving her a golden grin. Elizabeth looked back with a guilty scowl on her face and locked it.

Lizzie couldn’t help but feel the huge lump building in the back of her throat. Lizzie felt her lips moving as she rambled her reason of leaving him for dead but couldn’t herself mutter it. All she heard was Jack’s response.

“…Pirate…”

Elizabeth wanted to bawl or kiss him again or do SOMETHING! But she just took one last look and ran to the long boat.

Lizzie pushed her hair out of her face as she sniffed one last time. She glanced around the swamp and sighed. She then felt around her pocket, a nervous habit and felt a small box in her right jacket pocket.

She furrowed her brow and looked down at her hand. Elizabeth gasped to see Jack’s compass in her hand. She used both hands, feeling it’s edges and sides, making sure it wouldn’t disappear.

Elizabeth then held the compass to her chest and exhaled.

“Oh Jack.”

She then fell asleep in that position, thinking about the feel of his lips.
