Ginny had been dragging her around the castle all day in attempt to keep Hermione out of Ron’s sight but she quickly got tired of it. After cleverly diverting Ginny’s attention to Harry, Hermione slinked away to the kitchen. She hadn’t realized that she had been so hungry. Right as she had arrived, the littlest of elves approached her with a sweet smile on her face. She took Hermione’s hand and guided her to a seat.

“Hello, Miss Hermione. How may Tera serve you?” she asked as she pushed in Hermione’s chair.

“Well, Tera, honestly, I’m starving. I’d love some fried chicken, if you’d be so kind.”

Before she could finish her sentence, there was a huge plates of chicken drums, mashed potatoes and green bean casserole all at the snap of little Tera’s fingers.

“What would you like to drink, Miss?” She asked.

“Um, pumpkin juice, please?” Hermione asked softly.

“Of course.” And with that, a pitcher of pumpkin juice appeared.

“Well, eat up, Miss Hermione. Wouldn’t want you of all people to be starved.” She said, smiling before she went back to cleaning up some dishes.

Hermione smiled back at her before tucking in. As per usual, the food was delicious and she was indeed very grateful of the little elf. She tried to finish it all but it was obvious that her eyes were much bigger than her stomach because she felt like she was about to topple over from the amount that she already ate.

“Oh dear, I don’t think I can have anymore,” Hermione said with a chuckle. Tera came around again and gave her a knowing look, “It’s okay, Miss. Tera shall clean up the mess.” And with a snap of her fingers, the plates disappeared.

Slightly delirious from the pleasure of being so full, Hermione dazed off for a bit and then realized that Tera was leading her out of the kitchen, “Now, Miss, you must rest.”

Hermione nodded, grabbed her stuff, said a quick thank you and started to head towards the Gryffindor tower. Softly humming to herself, she found herself near the astronomy tower staircase. But abruptly came to a stop. She had saw something out of the corner of her eye. Quickly turning around, she gazed up the staircase to try to spot what she might have glanced at but saw nothing. Then she heard a scuttle against the floor, as if someone’s foot might have slipped against the tile. Immediately, she turned again to try to see if someone was following her, but couldn’t see a thing.

Slowly, but surely, she began to feel quite silly because obviously, it was just a mouse. Plus, it was after hours, it was quite dark in the castle and the building was settling. Sighing to herself, she put her wand away after realizing that she even took it out in the first place. Hermione began to walk towards the dormitories again, but then, she heard footsteps. She swung around, wand out and saw a shadow coming down from the staircase.

Swiftly, she slipped behind a statue, held her breath and waited to see who the person was. The footsteps got closer and closer and then a figure came into view. The person wore a dark cloak, that hid their features well. But it wasn’t until they turned that she saw the bright flash of bleach blonde hair. Hermione took in a sharp intake of air and immediately covered her mouth; afraid that he might have heard her.

His delicate fingers pulled off his hood from atop his head and he let out a small sigh. She watched as his cold, stormy grey eyes surveyed the hallway. His eyes were quite fascinating she had to admit. When calm or apathetic they were more grey than blue. But when frustrated or angry or hateful, they were a bright blue with a lining of grey. It frightened her, dare she admit it out loud, when he used to look at her that way. It was like he was a cobra. Silent when calm, but when provoked, lethal and ready to strike.

But this was a much different side to Malfoy than she had ever seen before. His eyes held a strong sense of remorse that made his aristocratic features stand out even more. In a way, he looked like a broken man with no way to cure his disease. No way to change his past. Right at that moment, Hermione had that strangest urge to come out from the shadows and comfort him. Show him that everything would be alright and that anyone could change.

But did she really believe that?

Well, obviously, she did. Very much so.

Hermione subconsciously nodded in emphasis at the proclamation she made in her mind. Trying to get a better look at him before he walked away, Hermione put her hand on the side of the statue to steady herself but gasped as a few rocks fell away from the sculpture.

Immediately, Draco switched his attention to the right of him. His eyes narrowed as he grabbed into the shadows and pulled Hermione out by the wrist.

“Spying on me, are we?” He said, venom dripping from his words.

Hermione tried to get Draco to release her arm, but to no avail. “Spy on you? I thought you were spying on me!”

Draco rolled his eyes and roughly let go of her, “Stalk you? What makes you think that I would ever lower my standards to sneaking around hallways to see what you’re doing?”

“Well, I don’t know!” She hissed, “You were the one being all sneaky upstairs in the tower.”

Draco eyes glinted in mischief, “Indeed…I was sneaking around in the tower…” He drawled, beginning to circle around her, “but I wasn’t the one hiding behind a statue waiting for me to come down from said tower, was I?”

Hermione gulped. He did have a point.

Draco stood directly behind, leaning forward as he breathed into her ear menacingly, “…Well?”

A shudder ran down her spine as she felt his hot breath against the side of her neck. “Well, what? I heard footsteps, thought someone was following me, so I felt the need to hide.” She rushed out as she side stepped, making sure there was plenty of room between the two of them.

He glanced down at her, noticing that she was a bit flushed. After a few moments, his suspicious attitude dropped and was replaced by a smirk. “A Gryffindor hiding? Now…that’s just laughable,” he said, chuckling a bit after he said it.

Hermione rolled her eyes and ran her hands through her hair, “You know what Malfoy. Sod off. I really can’t deal with you right now.”

And with that said, she started to make her way to the Gryffindor tower. But after a few moments she realized that there was a second pair of footsteps echoing off the walls along with hers. She let out an irritating growl and swung around to see Malfoy pulling the most classic of ‘I’m innocent so you should totally not yell at me” looks.

“Will you please not follow me.” She asked through clenched teeth.

Malfoy snorted, “Oh, Granger, please. Don’t be conceited, will you? The dungeons happen to the be that way if you’ve forgotten. I’m not purposely following you. I’m just going this way so I don’t happen to have any other girls popping out behind statues in an attempt to stalk me. See, your Gryffindor side should be proud. You protecting my valuable pureblood self,” he ended with a perfectly quirked eyebrow.

Hermione just gawked at him as if he was an idiot, smacked her palm to her face and immediately swung back around in the direction she was going. Though she was glad Draco was behind her because as he started to snicker, she felt the corners of her lips turn up in an amused grin.

A few minutes later, they found themselves in front of the portrait of the Fat Lady. Before waking her up and saying the password, she turned around just in time to see Malfoy walking away down another corridor. She slightly smiled to herself as she watched him disappear, then made her way inside the common room.

And throughout the whole time as she got ready for bed, she realized two peculiar things. For one, Malfoy had two stray feathers on his robes; one white, one black. And for two, the dungeons was in the complete opposite direction from where they started off. Giddy and smiling to herself, Hermione didn’t even take the time to scold herself for her silliness and promptly went to sleep.
