It was raining. Harry shook his head, what a day to visit Hanson. Newly out of jail and he hadn't shown up at the Chapel yet. Harry probably figured that Hanson was getting used to the fact that he was no longer in jail. He could appreciate that. It had taken him a while to realize that he was in America and not in Vietnam any longer. But, it was still a sureal experience. He put the car into park. From the back he was able to fish out an umbrella. As he got out of his car, he flipped the umbrella open to sheild him from the sheets of freezing rain.
Hanson's new apartment was two floors up. The stairs were somewhat protected from the rain, so Harry unfolded his umbrella and stuck it under his arm. He rang the bell of B12. It took a few moments but the door opened to a rather tired Tom Hanson. He smiled slightly.
"Ioke, what brings you here?" Hanson asked.
"Tommy, I think we need to talk, about stuff," Harry replid. Tom blinked, the fact that his name had been used and not the usual last didn't fly past him. He opened the door and stepped back so that Harry could enter. Boxes, packed and un-packed littered the apartment. Otherwise it was big, white and had hard wood floors. It was more a studio than an apartment. Harry could see an unmade bed in the far right corner.
"Sorry, were you sleeping?" Harry asked.
"Trying, but that's a constant, don't worry about it. Soda? that's all I have besides water," Tom replied. Harry nodded.
"Okay, so...what happened, you know, while you were in jail?" Harry asked. Tom didn't reply. He brought down two glasses and poured the pepsi into each, then he plopped ice cubes into each.
"Nothing sexual. Though they tried," Tom replied. His brown eyes were honest and Harry let out a long breathe.
"Why? Ioke, what's wrong?" Tom asked. Harry looked down into his glass and then he looked up. He and Tom were standing close, too close for friends. He decided this was it. He raised a hand, his fingers rolling gently through Tom's dark brown strands. He pulled the other close to him and their lips met. Tom didn't move, Harry didn't want to look. He kissed Tom hard, gently, long.
By the time they parted Tom was gasping and Harry smiled. He had made Tom gasp.
"Wow, Ioke, I didn't know you could kiss like that," Tom said, half joking and half seriously.
"There's more where that came from....if you want to take a chance," Harry replied.
"Can I think about it?"
"Sure," Harry nodded. He was glad for this, because he wasn't sure what he was doing. All he knew, right now, at this exact moment....was that he wanted Tom. He wanted the other below him. Screaming his name while he [Harry] rammed into the willing body below him.
Harry finished his soda and bid Tom a good night. He disappeared into the rain. Leaving Tom wondering just why the hell Harry had chosen him out of the thousands of other people that habitated the city.
