As a lesbian who writes M/M stories I just have to apologize for this woman, making us all look like raging harpies. I also have to rightly say this woman needs to fuck off. What a myopic view of M/M writers. I have been in and out of slash fandom for over 12 years and I can honestly say that most of the stuff I read had nothing in common with what she describes as what we all write. Also her rant about blatant form of sexism, homophobia, racism is bullshit. And how is the couple in the Kids Are Alright and their "excitement of the action-and the oppositeness of their own sexuality" any different than other women who write M/M. How does she know 100% that every woman who writes M/M doesn't have the same views of m/m. I mean clearly straight women writing m/m falls under the oppositeness of one's own sexuality. Dang, I am so fired up right now about this crap. I was getting ready to go to bed but I think I'm gonna stay up and write more sexist, racist, homophobic stories where I will most definitely emasculate one of the pair and I'll probably throw some rape in there for good measure, too. *side eye at this woman*
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this bitch needs to be schooled. and please don't feel bad - I think you're awesome. :) I've never seen the films that are mantioned in the article. But seeing as how everyone is different, not everyone is gonna agree about sex and same sex relationships. I found this article because I was trying to find articles about writing good M/M fiction - I have never believed that just because I am straight I shouldn't write M/M fiction. It just goes to show that no matter the life style, someone is always gonna be judgemental of other people.
I dunno what person pissed this woman off to think that all straight, female m/m writer's are like this; all I know is that I'm not one of them and LAMBDA can go suck an egg for all I care - just because they've been around the block a time or two doesn't mean they know everything in the world and are allowed to make those sorts of decisions regaurding fiction. I don't need them to tell me what to write - because obviously they're have a bias against writer's like me. They wouldn't accept a story I wrote unless I led them to believe I was gay/lesbian and I'd never do that anyway.
Well - I dunno if it's all the writer's they employ, I only read that one article and it made me not want to see waht else this magazine had to offer. I mean, it's hard to want to read something after you've been insulted like that. Or even like a person who thinks like that. It's kinda like Hitler saying all Jews are Evil. That's not kosher. Okay, and it's a weird comparision. I'm not saying this woman is Hitler, I'm just saying that she's that judgmental.
If she had her way, I bet she'd make it a law that straight writer's only write het stuff. Bah humbug I say to her. And that magazine. I can see her diatribe on her personal blog, but not as an article. The first thing you do in an article is gather evidence from both sides of the fence and write neautral.
