So.
I think Ive got the stuff that my sister and mom have been sick with for the past week. I stayed home from Church because I was afraid I'd puke in church and that'd suck. Not to mention the random chills.
Anyway, I was taking a bath - and I had my ipod on. Well, one song that I particularly love is 'Beer for my horses'. I then had the idea of an AU Wild West that takes place after the Civil War; kind of like those old Clint Eastwood movies. :)
So, I think I may hash that out. I'm not entirely sure if I'll go an episode route over complete AU. In this I mean, giving each team member a different job and have them meet up and blah, blah like what happens in Bed of Elephants or even Seduction Games.
The story in my head calls for the AU mixed with a bit of episodic mayhem. Now, the only thing I'm having trouble with is the North vs. South thing. I have lived in the mid-west of the States my entire life. What I've been taught in school my differ from what's taught in the South. I mean, I think the Civil war started over taxes, and not slavery. However, because of the race issues that came later - with the Martin Luther King Movement - the Civil War is considered the pre-cursor to Blacks actually gaining more freedom. The stuff that women had to fight for as well - so, when I mentiont he Civil War, I'm thinking South = bad and North = good.
The bad thing about this is I think that's what a lot of people have been taught. The thing I know I have to conceder if I write this fic. Is that the South had their reasons that didn't always include their right to own slaves. I'll have to look up a lot of information on both sides to find the truth and to keep everything straight.
Okay, so here is the point I'm trying to say. When it comes to War, it doesn't matter who is fighting who, both sides think they are right, and both sides think the people they're fighting are wrong. This happesn in every war I've ever researched. Even if there is a subject that is wrong, such as slavery or taxation without repensentation, there will be people who think its a good thing and don't want it to change.
My other option is to do away with the Civil War as a plot point - and do a Wild West fic kind of like Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman, or Bonanza.
Granted the second option would be easier to manage.
But there is just something striking about writing about the History of my country. It's funny, but I've been taught so much in school, that sometimes all I know are one or two facts - and the rest of it just isn't important.
The only family I know of that was in a Historic war was my Great Grand Uncle on my Mom's side of the family. He was in ww2 as a scout. He was the fastest scout in his regiment. I think he got a purple heart but I'll have to ask my Mom to bring out the newspaper that'd somehow was given to her.
Okay, so anyway. That is the basis of the idea.
I think my other problem, if I write it with the Civil War included, is that i'm going to have to make sure I know a lot about it. I wont only have to know the historical facts, but I'm going to have to know the opinions of the characters on said facts. and that's a hard thing to do.
I guess the only canon I've got to go off of, in this case, is that the A-Team was a conservative show when it was being airedon tv originally. All the democratic tv people wanted The A-Team off the air because they didn't like how Conservative/Republican it was.
I personally don't see it.
But that's what Dirk Benedict said - I watched a youtube video where he was explaining this. I'll have to find it again and post it. I thought it was very interesting. I suppose its because I never think about what tv show is Conservative, or even Democratic. I just watch a show and decide if I like it or not. lol
Okay, that's it. This is me just rambling about shit. Mostly because I am actually quite...rem...nervous about even writing about the Civil War.
