we've been talking in my cultural geography class about globalization and the world becoming flatter, and while I do believe that becoming semi-flat is maybe a good thing (i'll be honest in that i don't understand the economic side of things as well as i would like) i don't believe that cultures will disappear. I think that people are too attached to their way of life and these differences have separated them for so long, that I don't see the differences disappearing. maybe that's just me being hopeful and naive.
i do think that you have a point about the corruption issue, but it seems like you have a good option of taking the promotion and if you hate it due to whatever reason, moving back to the research position. so while you have issues right now with the promotion, they may not be big issues when you are actually doing the job (and i totally think you should have a spear!). try it out, you're young and with no kids (that we know about) so try everything!
i love that you can't get away from us "shindigers" and i hope to see you at the shindig that we are planning, read the note that i put on facebook and reply please.
LOVE YOU!!!!
