One down, one to go

I've been performing this new poem lately called, "Fuck You, Mitt Romney and Rachael Ray At the Same Time." Performed it last night, actually. And now, apparently, I have to entirely change the title.

Now, if only Rachael Ray would get booted from the Food Network, I could happily retire that piece.

Yes, ratpackslim, I'm aware of your little perversion. ( Read more... )

I know you'd think I'm on your side with this one....By Xn, I'll admit it, I enjoy watching 30 minute meals from time to time.*Gasp*
Although Rachel Ray irritates me when she says shit like "yum-o" I do like some of the ideas she puts fourth. Like how to cut the fat out of your spaghetti with meatballs by roasting the meatballs in the oven, and adding beef broth to the sauce so it'll still taste as though it was cooked with beef. That's smart.
Although her show is fast prepped food - She doesn't do all the pre-packaged shit that Sandra Lee has on her show for this... I dislike her "semi-homemade" ass worse than RR.
Rachel Ray DOES promote kraft products in commercials... but she doesn't call them out in her show. I don't think anyone's calling her a feminist icon. There are FAR better women on the food network for that. Paula Dean-LOVE HER, that chick is sassy, sexy, flirty, & warm and doesn't fuck around when it comes to frying.

You know me... I'm a BIG fan of the culinary arts. I will slow cook meat till it drops from bones, however, from time to time, I'd like to know a short cut or two, like the best way to trim up a spice or a good snack idea for a party, and that's where I think she serves a purpose.

But my Food network fave is Alton Brown. Now that man's science makes food and himself sexier. He's teaches you short cuts when it's needed, AND lays the smack down on you when it's time to do something the old fashioned way. Not to mention how he cuts your kitchen gadget budget down to size when he shows you BETTER tools to use for things like making panninis and better ways to get your cuts of meat how you like them.

Hey, I make 30 minute meals all the time. But I like to think I'm making good food first, fast food second. For the record, though, adding beef broth to something isn't exactly cheating, in my book. I'm down with smart tips. (I don't know who this Sandra Lee person is, but she sounds heinous.)

And I'm totally behind you on Alton. He's a big part of the reason I don't need to memorize all those different "shortcut" tips. Once you get the science, you can really play around with confidence. Good stuff.
