My not so comprehensive musical history

Apr 27, 2006 22:14

Grades 2nd-3rd: Sister gives me a Tom Petty and Seal on cassette for my birthday. I listen to them exlusively all the time. I memorize all of the lyrics and learn how to sing in key.

4th-5th: Listen to some shitty hip hop and rap because of my friends. Become heavily obsessed with skateboarding and don't really listen to much music on my own.

6th: Skateboarding like crazy. Dream of getting sponsored and kissing girls. My humanities teacher Ms. Fisher gives me some Fury 66 and it changes my life. I buy a portable cd player with some birthday money. I skateboard and listen to it everywhere

7th: Get into bands NOFX, Snuff, and Xzibit through skate videos. Get some other influences such as the Backstreet Boys. I hate N'Sync. Period. My childhood friend's dad plays guitar in BLAST. It becomes aware to me what BLAST is. He gets free skateboards and cds... I am jealous

8th: Nothing.

9th: I hear Good Riddance - Better. Become obsessed and buy Operation Phoenix, RKL, and Leveler through some kids in my class. Epic. I attend some Expendables shows and don't smoke weed. Arthur gets into this band Abhorrance and we go to see them with Minor Catastrope and Unfold. I meet Brandon Abhorrance, get a job at T&A's. Listen to Overture of Malevolence until it doesn't play anymore. Get another copy of the cd. Arthur, Dunks and I also form Misconception that summer. Oh also the introduction of Napster.

10th: Begin going to shows on regular basis in search for bands. Get heavily into Poison the Well and other things. Spencer puts on a ton of shows and I start going to Jim Dandy's. Hear Stalin's War and become an avid listener. Miscon is a completele band with Evan Broman on drums and Russell Witt on vox. Russell gets me into Deftones and trys to give me a bunch of hip hop. It doesn't do anything for me. Nate Kotila gets a job at T&A's, I hear Entragian and I don't really like it. Oh yeah, Descendents change my life. I also hear Nerve Agents at this time.

11th: Completely stop listening to Sublime. Get a job at a skate shop and hear Minor Threat. Also start listening to Black Flag. Listen to A LOT of metalcore. Can't believe how heavy it sounds. Misconception plays something that is not quite classifiable to any genre, nor is it actually music. We also write Forsaken and it becomes a multi million dollar hit. Marisa and I meet this year I believe. Two For Flinching kills it and I'm introduced to James Lucas. I hear Frontier Zero and go to a bunch of house shows. (A.I.G) Dashboard also released some wicked songs that hit close to heart. Desert Eagle .50 forms and I have a very brief history in Affliction.

12th: Everyone in Misconception is on a downward spiral of drug addiction. I buy some girl pants and go through the worst phase of my life. Summer hits and Evan and Dunks move away. Arthur and I say fuck em and recruit Operation Scobi and my long time friend Kurk. Brandon and I also go to a Dashoard show with Shey and make fun of MxPx. Shey gets me obsessed with Lagwagon and some other drive thru bands.

the rest of '04-05: Strike Out is born. Catchy name right? More metalcore. Start to pick up on indie and emo a little more. Summer ends and I realize how much metal core sucks. Get into earlier hardcore. Listen to a lot more punk rock

'05-06: I meet this girl Sherilla through student teaching. She gets me into Sick of it All, Shelter, Tokken Entry, Warzone, Judge, and some other stuff. Hear more old hardcore through Marisa through Leah. I thirst for more and buy more cds. Strike Out chugs along with Owen Miller now on vocals. Get into bands like Grey Area, Avail, and 7 Seconds through Owen. Arsonists Get All the Girls forms and Arthur becomes involved in that. Creative differences and Strike Out nears extinction. I hear Against Me and that changes my life. More punk. Mad at Me forms. I buy an acoustic and Gun Metal is born. Nate K. gets into psychobilly and turns me on to a bunch of bands like Nekromantix, Mad Sin, and Demented Are Go. Mad at Me prepares for the World Domination tour
