It seems like the more I try to simplify my life, the more complicated it gets. A few months ago the idea seemed relatively simple. All I had to do was to get my own radio show and retire from running my company.
Nope, it ain’t that simple. First of all, you have to get people to pay for your show. Not only that but get them to pay you enough so that you can advertise your show and draw a decent salary.
But first you have to get people interested in your show in the first place. My expertise is in organic tree health care so I figured I would start there. I have been on gardening radio call in programs ever since I can remember so the answer was pretty obvious. I would start Houston’s first environmentally focused calling gardening program.
In order to get interesting guests I began working more frequently with community service organizations like Urban Harvest, Harris County Master Gardeners, the Master Naturalist Program, The River Oaks Garden Club, and The Texas Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association.
But now they not only want me to take their classes, some want me to serve on Boards of Directors. But ok, I have been saying that I am not so much an expert as I am a student, here’s my chance to prove it.
But then perhaps this extra time will give me a chance to get my head together. You know meditation, mind, body, soul, and all that. So I joined the Houston Holistic Chamber of Commerce to get a handle on the best course toward enlightenment. But you know me, I soon figured out the obvious link between holistic healing and environmental ecology. Of course this leads into interviewing MYSTIC HEALERS, CRYSTALOTHERAPISTS, ENERGY CHANNELERS, FENG SHUI-ISTS, GUIDED VISUALISTS, HERBALISTS, HUMAN ENERGY FIELD ANALYSTS, HYPNOTISTS, INTUITIVE GUIDES, MAGNETIC THERAPISTS, INSIGHT MEDITATION - VIPASSANA TEACHERS, PSYCHIC GUIDES, MEDIUMS, SPIRITUAL COUNSELERS AND TAROT READERS for a spot on my show.
I mean, doesn’t it all sort of fall in together with ecologists, environmentalists and naturalists?
But whether or not that will fly is nothing compared to trying to find a way to get a Christian audience on a Christian radio station to go for it. I really have my work cut out for me. I mean really, a lot of these people think of an environmentalist as a pawn of the Devil, much less talking about channelers and psychic guides.
But that’s what I do best. I have always seemed to bring the oddest of bedfellows together. But like the song says, …hopeless romantics, here we go again…
I guess the simple life just ain’t so simple when it comes to me.
