Hello Sir!

May 29, 2006 17:08

And so the last weekend of my first quarter century has drawn to a close. Soon my weekends will comprise nothing more than trips to the garden centre, crap DIY and occasionaly bouts of dogging.

This weekend itself was good. The planned writing session on Friday with Richard, John and Leigh didn't lead to a wealth of new material, but there was as usual a rich seam of ideas, suggestions and odd tangents to chase up and so I think plenty will come out of it in the long run. Plus Richard's set off fleshing out what promises to be a dynamite idea of his revolving around SoulFade and the wacky world of regional TV news.

Leigh also presented me with a painting for my birthday, said canvas featuring myself, Richard and John on the way to Glastonbury. It's the first time I've received a painting from anyone for any occasion and is immeasurably cool. Cheers, buddy.

Saturday meanwhile was intriguing, Leigh covers most of the fun and frolics from Warrington in his livejournal, whilst the evning saw myself, Richard, Peck, Emmy and Katie take to Mashy's house in Sheffield for some fancy dress. My 1920's gangster get-up was a raging success, Richard settled into his benefits cheat outfit a little too well and Katie became easily the hottest thing I've ever seen in a Rovers kit (she was pleased with this compliment until we took the time to consider the traditional aesthetic qualities of Rovers players which somewhat took the shine off it).

Emmy lasted less than 2 hours before passing out (a warning of the perils of being over 25) whilst myself, Richard and Peck spent the night attempting to thwart the efforts of two strange fellas trying to pull Katie (only a partial success). Plus, as usual, I had to clean up a friend's vomit...

But, in the end, it needed more of The Massive there for me to really, truly enjoy it. I've known them too long, I'm getting too old to really be arsed mingling and getting to know new people unless there's a real connection. I've got to know Charlotte and Leigh really well over the last few months, and they've both been through the Massive, but those relationships developed over MSN as much as anything (something that 19 year old me said would never happen), and not whilst chucking back Smirnoff Ice in a friend's house.

That said I could've pulled...
