Hawksley Workman last night:
barrysarll's verdict on he new album (which I haven't yet heard) was that it took a few listens to warm to, on account of it sounding quite a lot more commercial than previous outings. He was, however, now warming to it. This is probably why I was less than completely entertained with the jig. Hawksley is really exceptionally talented, and all of that, but he didn't play much I recognised. Having not heard it yet, much less warmed to it, most of it went straight over my head and I was very much relieved when the encore was revealed to be No Beginning No End (from Last Night We Were...). I can understand why
thermaland (or anybody taking their first dip in The Hawksley) would feel indifferent to it. He got through a lot of songs, so a couple more Old Bloody Oranges wouldn't have gone amiss.
