so last night i had guitar lessons except my usual instructor wasnt there so i had a fill in.
he was a total stoner
it was awesome though. i didnt learn much about guitar but for most of the time we discussed the relationships between mathematics and music
sooooo interesting
for example, each note is given a frequency rating (ie. 110 hz, 440 hz, etc). and when you look at the frequencies of each note you'll find it ALMOST lines up with this well known mathematical sequence which i cant remember the name of right now. so for example, the note rated with 440 hz actually sounds a lot crisper and cleaner if it is set to 432 hz (the exact number from the prementioned sequence)
and then you look at beethoven who continued to produce musical masterpieces while being completely deaf. but when you analyze the notes and the progression of the songs you'll find the patterns to be very mathematical and logical in structure. thats probably why they say that babies who grow up to classical music like this will be smarter in language and math. all those subconscious events happening behind the scenes
also! language itself is so formulaic and mathematical, which is why math and language are so intertwined. i first noticed this when i had to program a grammar for a language parser.
so yeah. math defines both beauty and perfection. everything we're subject to, all our senses, are seemingly predefined. kinda scary.
i dunno
to think that perfection can actually be obtained really bugs me. the thought that once this bound is reached there is nothing more to do. no further to progress
wow its early
