Linux/Windows Debate will outlast nuclear holocost, along with cockroaches....theicemancomethSeptember 2 2002, 18:22:33 UTC
well its very good security wise, lot easier to hack into a machine running windows than it is to hack a machine running linux, and once you get used to running linux, its the same familiarity as it is with windows. also if you download or buy everything for windows that's equivalent to what comes with the linux OS, you'll save disk space (by a few hundred megs) with linux. you can run windows programs on a linux machine and in fact you can run windows inside the linux OS. That way you'd have the stability and security of linux and the familiarity and user friendliness of windows. its really just a user preference though, each OS has its pros and cons, and those differ with the type of user that you are. The debate between windows/linux could last forever, in fact, some people get very arguementative about it. Me-well, I just use both because I want to know them both, never know when I may need it. and as far as cost is concerned, I've got several windows os that cost me nothing but the cd I burned them to. All boils down to this I guess, whether or not you want know both or know one, and no one can make that decision but the individual user. i like them both, not really partial to one or the other, its just up to you man, and what you like after going thru them both.

yeah, but running one OS inside another just makes it that much slower on the draw. there is one thing that linux has going for itself, It's free. oh well, oh i got a little message for you...

unless i read it or converted it wrong, I didn't get nothing from the binary, no real words or combinations, did it in ASCII, Hex, and Decimal, I did see a pattern emerge, but it didn't mean anything. here's my conversion, let me know if I did it wrong, cuz I want to know my mistakes...

yeah, ok, i saw that i used something for my routing and switching class, yeah, I know, that's pretty boneheaded to do, but then again, I did find the right one and it turned out ok.
was using the 8-bit ascii instead of the 16 bit unicode ascii.

All zero's is "NULL", a period is 46 (00101110).
as far as classes goes. 100's on everything so far. I mean the Data Comm/Networking, hell I got my Net+ Cert last year so it's pretty much an easy class. I'm hoping it gets harder than this. and VB6 I learned last year too. So I don't see it getting difficult.
Oh yeah, what do you think of Wal-marts "Lindows" Machine?
Re: Linux/Windows Debate will outlast nuclear holocost, along with cockroaches....theicemancomethSeptember 4 2002, 20:14:01 UTC
"Lindows machine"? I've not heard of it, or, if I have, then it didn't make much of an impression on me. I'll have to go check it out. what binary code are you using, I'm using 16bit unicode, so the period looks like this 0010111000000000. though, I could be wrong of course...
anyway, good to hear that your classes are going well, wanna take part in some of mine? I can show you the info and etc that goes with them. hit me, also, email may be better than LJ, send me one at morr905@bellsouth.net

classes are Internet Protocols Routing & Switching (Cisco Cert. class) Java Programming Computer Upgrade/Repair
IP and RS pretty much cover the same things, there's some differences, but not much, and comp U/P is pretty much a review, although I'll learn some technical stuff that I prolly didn't know beforehand, and Java is brand new to me so I'm paying close attention to it. He's also teaching some C++ in the Java class also, mainly because they're closely related.
