Today's quote: "Life literally abound in comedy if you just look around you" -- Mel Brooks
Hope everyone's shabbos was good. Mine was, thanks to my wife and my lamb cholent for lunch (I have lots of it leftover...I think I'll grab some after I finish this post...)
There's really no reason for that in the subject line: It was just the first thing that popped into my head for a title. Anyways, let me update what's been going on around here:
I just took my first practice GRE. It went fine except for the fact that I forgot that the verbal section had antonyms and not synonyms. So, naturally, I got a 390 on my verbal (out of 800). Bummer. But I did lighten up a lot more when I saw my math score. I haven't taken a math class in almost 3 years (and haven't cared about one in a little longer), and yet I still managed to get a 610 on it. My goal for my Princeton Review class is to get both of those up to above 700 each. That's going to take a lot of work, but if I can pull it off, with my GPA I think I can easily get into Case Western in Cleveland for grad school (I'm once again being the black sheep in my family by only getting an MS, instead of being like my father and brother who has and who is about to get a Ph.D)
I started my tutoring job for the Computer Science department on Thursday. It went ok--mainly because I only have one hour in the lab on Thursdays. My schedule for tutoring is as follows: Monday 9-12, Tuesday 9:45-11:45 and 12:30-2:30, Wednesday 5-7, Thursday 12:30-1:30. I tutor for the Intro to Java class that's got 4 sections nearly filled with people, and there are 2 tutors (me and a nice guy named Alec). Oh, and those 4 sections are taught by 3 different people, so I naturally have to keep track of what 3 different classes are doing at the same time. That's not even the worst part. Yesterday I was in the lab from 9-12 and had a grand total of 3 people show up. Then there's just now when I had 2 hours of tutoring in the morning with 1 person showing, and then I came back after lunch and 3 people waiting for me. This is going to be a long semester.
Speaking of which, I made a game for my Computer Games class. To check it out, or to see anything else I make in the future, just go to
http://homepages.nyu.edu/~csa219/Games I've also decided that I'm trying to get into Fringe. The first episode started off slowly (they did need to introduce the characters, after all), but near the end it got pretty good. I'm hoping to see the next episode tomorrow (It's on tonight, but I don't have a TV so I'll watch it online tomorrow)
That's really about all. I'm just going to go back and do some GRE Prep work while listening to Pandora and pray that someone actually shows up to stop me from being so freakin bored.
