Greetings to all! I hope you enjoyed Shabbos (I sure did).
As you all (probably) know by now, John McCain picked Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska as his running mate. When I heard about this, it begged 2 main questions: 1) Who? and 2) Why?
I started out being a little skeptical about this, but I've gradually warmed up to this exceptional idea of McCain's.

Are you serious??? Are you implying that somehow it is more politically expedient or even EASY for Democrats NOT to be as pro-Israel as the Repubs? If you support Republicans because of your perception that they are more sympathetic with the Likudnik 'status-quo' position, then spell it out instead of suggesting that the Democrats are going to give away the farm.
"Obama has been more openly in touch with the country. I think we need to give it time to see what Palin can do. If she turns out to be totally out of touch, then I will agree with you on this point."
Fine, let's see how she fares in the next couple of weeks. I'm not prepared to give such a nobody such a high office. And don't reply that Obama is a nobody, please.
"Shit happens, but with modern medicine, it tends not to happen as often, as early, or as fatally with famous people." >>> Again, I'm not saying the guy is gonna drop dead. But don't pretend his ealth isn't a concern either. Don't pretend we'd be having this conversation if McCain were Obama's age. And don't pretend that McCain is somehow not a "famous person", and therefore immune to the risk the famous people have of dying. This is in any case a not fully explained line of attack. How do these famous people die? Murder? Drugs?
9) "I'm not saying they vote their genitals. What I'm saying is that *****IF****** it's true that the Dems were being sexist with HRC that women voters are going to get turned off by the party."
And why would you say that the Democrats have acted sexist in any way, shape or form? Obama won. He WON. Hillary fought hard, and lost. Obama and HRC have acted graciously toward each other, and now even Bill is on board. Only a person who is so hypersensitive toward feminism, and sees it everywhere and in everything - like a Geraldine Ferraro - could possibly fell even REMOTELY slighted. This is a desparate line of attack. Imagine if the Dems were Anti-Semitic with a Jewish senator: How many Jews do you think would either vote Repub or not vote (will you agree with me that a not-voting Dem or a Nader-voting Dem = a Repub vote?
If anything, the sexism comes from the a Republican campaign shallow enough to believe that a cheap stunt like this will score them points with a significant amount of female voters. And don't PUMA me - they are not a serious group and do not enjoy widespread support.
The fact is that women are wary of Palin, even if it causes them to another look at the Repub ticket.
Core- pols fluctuate. You have to admit the political environment is toxic for Republicans, which is why their candidate HAD to be someone with an independent streak for them even to have a remote chance. McCain provides that; otherwise Generic Dem vs. Generic Repub is 60/40. Obama did get the post-Convention bounce and was back up in a Rasmussen poll to 48/41. If you really like polls, I'd suggest you check out this site: http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/ It's run by Nate Silver, a baseball analyst who decided to run this site because of his expertise with all manner of data that baseball analysts have to deal with. It's fairly non-partisan and cites a crapload of polls each wk. Right now, he has them splitting the popular vote and Obama winning 284 or something electoral votes. So yeah, it'll be close, by my horse has the edge in this photo-finish, and just recieved a steroid boost from the jockey.
I agree he didn't have that many ppl to chose from. Are you saying Romney's ugly? I missed it. I understand the Palin decision, but that doesn't mean I have to like it and that doesn't mean I should set aside my concerns about her. I haven't set aside all of mine re Obama.
Why would you only answer 7-9? Maybe I missed the other email. anyways I dont have time as I have to go back to the city from Deal. Why won't I see you tomorrow/?

Obama's not a nobody. He'd have to be a senator from Hawaii or Alaska to be a nobody (can you off the top of your head name any of those 4 senators?), not the Midwest.
McCain's health is a concern, but it's one that is being blown way out of proportion. The man has the best doctors taking care of him, and recent history with Presidents shows that they tend to live longer than even 30 years ago. Am I worried? Sure. Do I think he's a goner within 8 years? Not by a long shot. BTW, the famous people reference was to include McCain, actually. And famous people that don't die of drug overdose (the list of those people can fill books) tend to die when much older when they have modern medicine (think Marlon Brando who lived to 80 despite being huge, and James Cagney who lived to be 86). My point is that people who are in the public spotlight tend to pay for the best doctors to take care of them, and such live longer.
9) I'm not saying that they were necessarily sexist, just that they've been accused of it (ala Ferraro), and if that's true that's a bad thing to have on your resume during an election year. And HRC and Bill are only on board to try and maintain the fiction of party unity. You know as well as I do that part of HRC wants McCain to win so she can come back 4 years from now and say, "See, I told you so!"
I admit that McCain only won because they needed a moderate. I'm not that naive.
I've saved the Nate Silver site into my bookmarks, because it's kinda cool. Plus, he used to work (I think) for Billy Beane, the GM of the Oakland A's, who only happens to be the greatest genius in the game of baseball, and who's revolutionized the way GMs need to look at the game. Just be careful that no one sees your horse getting that injection...
Romney, in Jessica's opinion, "looks like a pedophile, and has pedophile eyes." I'm not going to go that far, but yeah, dude's ugly. What are your Obama doubts?
You either missed the other e-mail or this one came first, which is weird because I posted the other one first. Huh. Anyways, you probably won't see me tomorrow unless you go to Bronfman at around 4:30 because my only class on Tuesdays is Professor Schiffman's Gemara class from 4:55-7:00 at Bronfman. You can drop by to say hi to me, if you want.
