Laptop Life

So this is the first entry I've written from my laptop. Why, you ask? Well, because my desktop was attacked by a viscious virus that shut down pretty much all of my Internet. I'm so annoyed at this I could spit! I just don't understand the reasons for creating this kind of nonsense.
I still haven't figured out how to get my laptop to connect to the modem at my apartment, so in the meantime I'm using the wireless connection in the leasing office. The manager said "stay as long as you want," and I guess I'm testing the sincerity of that statement. Well more like trying to wait for NPR to upload all of the Weekend Edition stories, since I know that tomorrow this place won't even be open.

So what have I been up to lately? Mostly working out the glitches that make up my life. I'd found out that I owed an additional $359 in tuition and fees that Division of Services for the Blind hadn't paid, but thankfully the scholarship I was awarded last June was enough to cover it. I even will get back a small refund! If you've been reading lately, you know that every little bit counts for me.

Happy July 4th. What are your plans? I'm to go to a cookout with this church I've been attending: the woman said she'd be by to pick me up around 3 PM. I can't wait to sink my teeth into a grilled burger and a dog. I certainly hope I don't have the usual hearing issues that plague me, but I think if I can force myself to just relax it might not be that bad.
And speaking of those, my audiologist has had me initiate a couple of things that will hopefully help fund my new hearing aids. She's going to write up a report that I am to submit to Vocational Rehabilitation on the 29th. I have no idea if this will work, but I guess it's worth a shot.

And I wrap up with my reads, of course. I recently finished another book by Douglas Preston called Blasphemy. It was ok, about the craziness that can result when religion and science clash. It kinda showed how both can be cult-like, and that if responses remain unchecked in either area they can present a grave danger to humanity and civilization. A well-funded scientist got the government to sponsor the construction of a machine that could accelerate particles, like the LHC does in Europe. Meanwhile, a televangalist preacher whipped huge crowds into an uproar, claiming that the machine was attempting to be God. I especially enjoyed the ending action scene, as it felt very much like watching a movie. I suppose I'd give this one 3.5/5 stars.

I juststarted The Fifth Vial, the second book I've read by Michael Palmer. I will inform on what I thought of it in my next installment.

I reckon that's all that's going on of note. I'm trying the System Access Screen-reader full version on my laptop, because I'm tired of constantly restarting it. I like it thus far, except for the fact that I'll have to give it up in seven days. Gah I need some dough. Have a safe holiday, and I'll be back hopefully next week!
