- Cops finding a crime scene - kids gathered around a fire. Just like old times. I love when they have those intros. Classic L&O. - Literally a boy on fire. Hence the name of the episode. Kid was a high school student. - Cutter’s strut is much more pronounced in the new intro ending.
- They visit the parents, parents tell them he was a good boy - he was at school that night, helping other students as a tudor. He was found near 115th near Madison - not on the route home. No cell phone on him - father called and it went to voicemail.
- Sunrise Academy - Cesar (victim) had turned around his grades, headed to a 4-year college after being there a year. No problems with the parents - keeping him on the right track. They’re funded by private donors, but are technically “public” or whatever. One of the donors offered a reward to find who committed the crime.
- Waited with the kid (Moses) he was tutoring after they were finished, till Moses’ mom came. He mentions a kid that Cesar exchanged words with, who went to Aaron Burr High School.
- Aaron Burr High School - where the kids who couldn’t get into Sunrise go. - Cops interview the Aaron Burr school principal, Mrs. Woodside. - Jolie Henderson - Burr student -- saw him at the library center, her ‘boyfriend’ Jay Spivey had words with Cesar previously.
- Jay Spivey marked absent. They visit him at home - he’s ill, has been for the last three days. “I got the swine flu, if you don’t believe me, you can hit up my doc.”
“I didn’t like Cesar, but damn. What those kids did to him is sick.” - Jay Spivey. - how’d he know about it? He heard some kids talking. They came there to keep him company. There was a video going around.
Bernard: Separating a bunch of kids from their cell phones? We’re gonna need reinforcements.
I like how they just took a random bunch of cell phones. I’m guessing that’s going to come into question later during the trial - the way the “evidence” was gathered or whatever.
- Kid in video has Aaron Burr High School sweater on. - Guy is actually a girl - doesn’t want any part in it - “She knows him,” says Lupo. “Maybe we know her, too,” says Bernard.
- They go to pep rally preparations. Moses’ brother is there, they question him to see what girl might have been there. He totally knows something. Or did something.
- Go Bernard and your half-court shot! - Ms. Woodside is so into her students. She had them clean up the graffiti even if they didn’t do it. Had them do service projects at least once a semester. Even kids who didn’t go there. Including Cesar Ramirez, who signed up w/ Jolie Henderson. Who lived RIGHT between Cesars’s school and the crime scene.
- Abel, Moses, Edison…okay then. Edison was there cleaning up graffiti, but the tipster says otherwise. Woodside says it must mean they just want the $25k reward.
- The caller to the tip line = Moses.
Moses, don’t lie to your momma.
- They think he was telling the truth on the tipline. He changed his mind after his brother got to him - after Woodside told him. H.S. principal covering for them - or for her school? One of the worst in the city.

- Yay, more Van Buren in this episode. She was hardly there last episode. - Jolie’s been raped. What?? - to keep her quiet.
- gangrape, witness saw three boys running away. Rapists wore condoms, it was planned. Same boys who attacked Cesar Ramirez.
If they can prove that what was done to Jolie was done to silence an accomplice, they have probable cause, but it would mean Jolie is an accomplice.
Connie: [pissed] Damn lucky for us she was gang-raped. Mike: No one is saying that. Connie: [LOOK]
GO CONNIE.
Mike: We can arrest her for murder to get her to talk. Connie:That’s not my favorite way to go right now. Mike: Well, I’m open to ideas.
- They go to see Moses and Abel Dolan’s mother. Mother says Abel had nothing to do with it, is going to college, etc. He had class on Tuesday night - he was both beautifying Aaron Burr High and taking a night class.
“He has an embarrassment of riches,” says Cutter.
KEY TOSS. He he he.
“We can use one alibi to break the other.” - Connie.
Change in Abel’s grades - by Ms. Woodside. Originally had an F in English, and then Credit Recovery. Can only be done by Woodside. Same with Edison.
Connie notes, “All four boys she’s covering for have benefited from altered transcripts.”
Connie: Do you think she’d cop to that? Mike: Let’s ask her nicely. If that doesn’t work…
Woodside: If you’ll excuse me… Cutter: Actually, we won’t excuse you.
McCoy: Grand larceny? What did she steal? Cutter: How about a decent education for her students? Their potential?
Another THAT Guy defense attorney. Ahahaha.
- Woodside argues that they’re just trying to use her as a scapegoat for covering for the kids in the murder and rape. Connie notes afterward to Mike that they never told her they were after them for the rape.
- If they were blackmailing her, it wouldn’t matter right now - attorneys just exposed it. Why is she still covering?
- Woodside tipped off the boys, didn’t realize what she was doing (causing Jolie’s rape)

- Convene the Grand Jury, says Jack. Oh, Jack. You continue to be like Adam Schiff. Exude the awesome. :D
- Wow, Linus Roache looks really good in the grand jury scene. The light is really complementing his eyes and features.
- Cutter says she’d defend her students no matter what they did. Woodside tries to gain sympathy on the grand jury stand. Woodside gets all emotional. Connie has to go get Jolie to go on the stand. Woodside sees her as she walks out there with Cutter.
- Jolie tells Woodside that she’ll make her proud, will be back at school soon. - Woodside looks super-guilty and says Cutter shouldn’t be “dragging” Jolie through the proceedings. Yeah, Woodside. You just got emotionally blackmailed. Suck it up and do the right thing - that’s basically the look Cutter gave her.
- Connie interviews Jolie on the stand.
- Connie and Mike discuss motives - they could get to Abel because he cares about his brother. I sort of missed parts of that conversation. Not gonna lie, I was all “oooh, they look so pretty together.”
- Bernard and Lupo question Abel - Moses wants to be like Cesar, not like Abel, that’s why Abel helped beat up Cesar. OH. That’s what Connie and Mike were discussing.
- They appeal to Woodside - if Abel confesses, Moses would get the reward - “at least one good thing would come of this.”
Cutter: Tell him to do what’s right. Woodside: Me? Cutter: You care about those kids. All of them. Just talk to him.
- Interesting the way that they pushed her buttons to get her to do the right thing. I love it. Aw, Connie and Mike.
- Cutter will get you a cup of coffee while your son confesses to murder. - Oh, wow. See, now this to me - seeing the family fall apart and the mother lose it - is way more compelling than anything in the last episode. Well. Okay. Lupo crying was pretty intense. But the case in general for this episode was a lot more
- Scotch for everyone!
McCoy: You could charge her with lying to the grand jury. Cutter: *shrugs* Well, she did help us in the end. McCoy: Is that enough extra credit to make up for an F? Now you’re grading like she did. Cutter:...... Rubirosa: *opens mouth, shuts it. Knows Jack is totes right.*
