Why don't zombies ever eat each other?

Would you want to eat rotting meat?

I - don't quite buy that. The idea is that the "living dead" wander, eternally hungry, and for some reason, they want them some Brains. Maybe there's some chemical they're missing, or they're just hungry. But it always shows them just going after the 1 living person and ignoring everything else.

Like, the row of steaks in the supermarket.

If I ever make a zombie story, I'd like to think I'll have better reasons. Like, they eat brains to get some chemicals they can't make any more. Or, they just eat frickin' everything, reduced down to pure animal instinct - if it moves, eat it. It could lead to a whole story progression that makes sense.

But that's just my annoyance with the zombie genre.
