Senator Wants Court to Oversee Spy Program
I think this is a good idea. And it needs to be part of the regular court system, with the usual checks and balances.
It is absolutely incredible that the Bush administration doesn't even want there to be a public discussion of this issue. The stuff about enemies listening in is nonsense. Nobody is asking him to reveal classified information.
I would be in favor of impeaching Bush over this issue if we had even the slightest reason to believe that the Democrats wouldn't immediately do the same thing and worse once they were in power. (Yeah, yeah, I know. Cheney would become prez just like Gerald Ford did in 1974. Irrelevant.) Even if the Democrats lied to us and told us they'd do things differently, I think I'd go along with it. But if you listen carefully, you will note that they are giving us no assurances that things would be different with them. They are only interested in evicting Bush and the Republicans.
