Ollie Johnson, last of the "Nine Old Men" who defined the Disney style of animation, has just passed away.

Rest in peace. May flights of angels sing thee to thy rest. Thank you from a fan for many happy memories.

Flights of angles? I assume you mean angels. :)

God rest his soul.

Whoops. I'll make the correction. This is the Internet NO ONE WILL EVER KNOW.

If God forgives sins for the happiness a person gives people (not to mention the impulse they give to an artform), this guy ought to shoot through Purgatory to Paradise like a rocket. All the same, I will say a prayer for his soul.

I found out last night; I'm still in shock, rather. May he rest in peace.

Thank you for the link. I think the best way to remember him is to carry on his legacy of great hand-drawn animation, and learn from what he did.

Who will ride their train with Frank now? arhyalon April 16 2008, 00:00:50 UTC
Aw! And I never did get to write up my interview with him. Poor Frank!!!

What find men they were!

I see that according to the article, Frank has already gone. Perhaps they are back together, riding their train through Heaven. ;-)

(For those less familiar with these wonderful gentlemen, they were best of friends and lived next to each other. (Their wives were friends, too.) They had a train that ran around the two properties.)

I had the honor of interviewing them both once. It was such a wonderful thing! Unfortunately, the magazine I was writing for went under before the article could be printed.

Oh, please, may we importune you to post up the interview somewhere?

Alas, the magazine folded before I finished it, so it is just a series of notes, only half formatted.

Perhaps, if I have some free time someday, I'll try to write it up and post it. If so, I'll have John post a note.
