It's 2 am, your hear a crash downstairs, and all your phones don't work. Now what?

First of all, my apartment doesn't have a downstairs. So, I'm going to change the prompt topic slightly. For sake of the story, it's 2AM, I heard a crash in my apartment and the phones are dead.
The fact that the phones are out doesn't bother me much. It might be an issue to someone who isn't trained as I am. There's a loaded gun near where I sleep (I'm not telling you exactly where). I'd pick that up and slowly make my way towards the room where I heard the crash.
I'd react accordingly, depending on what I found in the room. If someone was after me, I'd try to stop them from leaving. I'd shoot him (or her, as the case may be) if I had to. Of course, it would be a non-lethal shot at this point; I'd want to try to make the intruder talk first.
If it couldn't be avoided and the intruder ends up dead, so be it.
If whatever made the the crash wasn't a threat (like Chuck trying to sneak in my apartment or something), then I demand to know what the hell is going on.
And if it turns out there was no intruder that caused the crash, then I assess the damage and see if the mess can wait until morning.
