hey john,
it's hillary manalo...dunno if you know me..but liz gave me your sn, so i thought i'd leave ya a message.

i dont know if you know about the Gay Straight Student Alliance that we have at our school, but it's a lot of fun and the people are so awesome and fun to chill with. my roommate and i are sometimes there at the meetings, which are every monday at 11:30-12:20ish at the canzani lounging area, and i think you should come!! we usually just chat and hang out for an hour, talk about current issues or what's going on in the community that we can help out with...as well as things we can do to help fight this fight and educate the community. hope to see you there sometime!!! GSSA would be glad to see a new face..if you havent shown up there already when i wasnt there.. but um..yeah..

encouraging words dwayne todd sent me:
"Yes, it was a very disappointing election for several reasons. But I
expected the amendment banning gay marriage to pass...the polling numbers
were just too high.

It will be left to the courts to decide what rights gay people still have in
light of this. There is a chance that we will still be able to enter into
more "contractual" relationships with other people, but we would certainly
not have the exact same rights as married people do at this point.

I am hopeful that one day in our lifetimes, this amendment will be repealed
by voters. Reducing intolerance takes time, as all previous civil rights
fights have shown us. But generally, each new generation is more tolerant
than the previous one, and I think it's only a matter of time before there
are enough open-minded voters to repeal this legislation. And even today,
most people think that GLBT people should not be discriminated against or
harassed, but the issue of granting marriage rights is one that many people
just can't seem to embrace right now.

While we're all pretty disppointed today, remember that there have also been
many recent victories in the fight for rights for GLBT people. It's easy to
lose sight of the positive things when something so negative like this
occurs. If you need to talk more about it, please know you can come visit
with me."

talk to you later,
hill
