I am typing this on my Kindle, because I don't want to turn on my computer. So I beg forgiveness on any typos that may occur.
Does the promo department talk to the writers? I ask because the whole episode was written so that it should have been a surprise that the Wicked Witch was the new big bad. That was kind of ruined with the promos at the end of the last episode before the break. Not to mention all the ads I saw all over Facebook with hashtags and stuff.
But whatever. It was still a decent episode, though it was a bit slow what with having to catch people up and basically introduce a brand new story.
I wish I could say I was surprised that Walsh was a flying monkey (well, ok, the flying monkey part surprised me, but not that he wasn't what he appeared to be), but I wasn't. He definitely seemed to be too good to be true. And he was. I had thought he'd have been in league with the Wicked Witch, not one of her minions. So, that was a nice surprise. I am also intrigued that flying monkeys can shapeshift. I don't know the Oz stories that well, so that might be valid, but I'm guessing the writers took some liberties there. And I'm fine with that.
I'm also wondering if the monkey that was posing as Walsh is now dead or just poofed itself away to Storybrooke. My guess is it's dead, but it was interesting that it became a cloud of white smoke. I'd have thought that if anything, it would have been green.
Aside from the Walsh bit, not a lot happened that's worth mentioning in the part of the show that takes place in our world. I will be curious what Henry will think when he wakes up in Storybrooke. Will he automatically remember things because he has the heart of the truest believer? Or was Regina's spell strong enough to keep his memory away?
Oh. And I guess I should mention that Snow is pregnant. Will this be a second savior? How is Emma going to react to this? And, if time has stopped in Storybrooke, does this mean that Snow is going to be pregnant for an eternity? Or at least until they defeat the Wicked Witch? I guess those answers will come when we find out more about the curse that she placed.
In the Enchanted Forest portion of the episode, we got reminders of who is still around. We saw Prince Phillip and Aurora, Robin Hood and Little John and some other background characters. I was surprised that we didn't see Mulan at all. She did join the Merry Men, right? Maybe she was far in the background or scouting or something. Or possibly Jamie Chung had a different gig when that episode was being filmed.
I did enjoy that they did kind of imply that Robin Hood was Regina's true love. Nice to see the show not dropping that particular storyline. I, personally, want to see Regina get her happy ending.
Also, let's talk a little about how neither Aurora nor Phillip knew that the purple cloud coming at them was the curse. I can give Aurora a break, since she was under a sleeping curse the first time the curse happened. But shouldn't Phillip have known what it was? Or am I just expecting too much from the show?
I really don't have much else to say about this episode. It was fine and a nice wetting of the appetite, but I'm ready for a meatier episode that gets the story moving along a bit more. What did you all think?
