Hove does exist, but not in the way I've used it, and it doesn't have the form 'hoving'. I kind of had the phrase in my head, but not exactly what it meant, I must have read it somewhere ages ago and got it wrong... =/
hove is the past tense of heave: Idiom: heave into sight/view To rise or seem to rise over the horizon into view, as a ship.
